It's a phone. Does it really need AV1 encoding?

In my experience as a nearsighted person, this effect is much more pronounced while wearing glasses; less so with contacts, and almost nil without any vision correction.

I'd like to see some more science behind the claims about frequency responses of different types of wood. While they must resonate differently, I'm very skeptical of the claim that this leads to a qualitatively different sound. ed

On my end, it definitely does not work with https. I'm using the main stable version on the tvOS app store that I downloaded about a week ago. The default connection url is http:// , and changing it manually to https:/

Trying to move away from Plex on my Apple TV, I installed Jellyfin. Server-side, installation was painless. The Swiftfin Apple TV client, however, is basically unusable. It only allows you to connect to a server instance via unencrypted ht

Trying this out because this has annoyed me in certain apps. Mostly fullscreen games. Another wrinkle the author does not mention: If the application in question is x86_64, you will need the x86_64 version of frida running through Rosetta.

How would she join Apple but continue to work on Asahi Linux? That would be a pretty abrupt about-face for her or Apple, one or the other.

That group (Tenores di Bitti) are quite nice. My favorite are the Cuncordu e Tenore de Orosei. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RnoWeykrjQ You may recognize them from some soundtrack work in Werner Herzog films.

Not the best option honestly, a lot of services offer a crippled experience through the browser or on desktop OSs in general. Not to mention HDMI copy protection and the ever-evolving requirements to circumvent it. For the moment I'm h

Interested to see how the page size issues are worked out. Coming down on one side or the other seems detrimental. I've watched some of marcan/lina's work on GPU stuff, but I haven't heard their vision for resolving thos

If you're on OBS 29, all options will appear in the encoder dropdown in advanced output mode. The full suite: https://puu.sh/Juc1K/33d8aecc33.png

Yes. Also worth noting that for OBS 29 (in beta currently), Apple has contributed native hardware encoder support for H265 and ProRes, which both work very well. Very nice pick for their engineering outreach people! edit: Forgot to mention

Are you able to speak at all to the known performance struggles with x87 translation? Curious to know if we're likely to see any updates or improvements there into the future.

Isn't HEVC comparable? It may lack some sheer bandwidth efficiency, but it seems to make up for that with less compute cost. And the entire M1 line has hardware and software HEVC support. edit: Oh, you said royalty-free. Fair I guess?

The software I personally have the most issues with is Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, a 3d title from 1999 that from what I understand uses x87 math extensively. In Parallels (i.e. no Rosetta) it runs at 120fps easily, while in CrossOver the f

I guess that's true, I forgot about Apple making Rosetta 2 installable in Linux VMs. Also though, since Rosetta 2 was released, it's had an incredibly slow implementation of x87 FPU operations, and anything that relies on x87 floa

Despite the progress here, for me it raises a question: Most of the old games she mentions are x86 32bit games. What's the story for how these programs are actually going to run in Asahi? Box86 [1] doesn't sound like it's pro

I was just trying to figure out what my model is since I've never experienced the flicker, but I'm not home and it's too difficult. Looks like Panasonic has used the Viera designation for a long time and they continue to use

If you want a TV with amazing picture quality and don't want to pay a lot, there's nothing better than an old plasma TV. I ended up with a Panasonic 42" (Viera?) model, one of the later ones made. It's definitely quite h
