I don't mean HTML text nodes, I mean still the single big SVG like they do now, but with SVG <text> elements instead of <path> elements. They do know (I suppose) how much space that element would take since they're ask

Woa that's some heavy SVG lifting going on there! If I get it right, every glyph used from the given font is rendered once as a SVG path (upside down! huh!), and then the whole page is a single huge SVG element in which every typed cha

That's kind of how depression works right? The things that could fix it (socializing, exercise, etc) are also the things that are hardest to do. I'm not sure that I read your tone right, but being disappointed in a depressed frien

You do not "receive" VC, you sell shares (and control). You write as if it's some sort of grant that Figma uniquely got access to.

Standard "boo Russia, yay Ukraine" vibes + forgetting that Russian people are just regular people with regular-people hopes and fears.

FYI Al-Khwarizmi was a famous Persian mathematician from the Islamic Golden Age. The word "algorithm" is derived from his name.

You have a very American idea of “rich”. For you, it’s being worth 100M. But for me it’s being able to lead a life without financial worries doing a job relatively few hours a week, regardless of whether I code or wait tables. By this secon

Have a look at Legend State, it lets you do something very close to this (leaves get their data out of the global state directly) with React. https://legendapp.com/open-source/state/v3/

I’d love a founder perspective on this. If they kept saying “we won’t sell” and then sell, is that just plain breaking all promises and selling out, as this article suggests? Or was there more going on?

The way I understand it, Continent/City names aren't for pretty dropdowns or help texts (in fact, I'd wager they're kinda meh for that). They're the least bad way people have come up with to store and communicate ti

I agree with the gist of your comment but I think you’re using the wrong words. A time zone, as the name implies, is a zone, a place. The most common way to indicate a timezone is a continent+city combo that is both politically and geograph

I could not get through Banks’ “Feersum Endjinn” for this sole reason. English isn't my first language, though I’m fluent in it and read lots of hard sci-fi in it. But half a book using English “spelling rules” applied haphazardly just

Vue has great web component support. Even React 19 (finally!) does. Web components are a mess but this is a great application of them: shipping reusable components that work in all frameworks. It's the one and only killer application

You didn't expect a forum full of obsessive technology nerds to see through the nonsense cargo cult that is 2FA? tl;dr: You only need a strong, well-kept password or 2FA. Doing both has extremely marginal security benefits. Remember

Not GP, but my solution is to just not use 2FA if I can at all avoid it. After all, 2FA is 99% security theater anyway ( if you have a randomly generated unguessable password in a decent password manager).
