Roundup is a herbicide. Otherwise agree with you - unfortunately GMO does not necessary means less bad stuff.

This. My son dreams of becoming an airline pilot. But I find it difficult to rationalize investing more than $100k to satisfy the 1500 rule just to see many pilot jobs in the future replaced by automation.

I can confirm. I am in the same situation and it works well, although I still hate distraction these calls produce.

Throughout years Google showed that if you make any of their products essential for you, there is big chance you are going to be screwed. In the end all they care is web search.

Higher energy = lower wavelength is not oversimplification. The formula is: photon energy is plank constan times speed of light divided by wavelength. You right - you don’t need gamma rays, but you cannot do it with low frequency radio wave

Black body photons are coming at random times. Laser photons are coherent, so are timed. Think of swing - if you try to push it randomly you'll get it swing as far as hardest push. But if you push periodically, you can swing it very fa

Looking through comments. There is still lots misunderstanding. So let's get deeper into the topic. In particular - how stuff gets heated by light and what light "temperature" is. Thermodynamics arguments are always good but

Suppose you are right. The effective temperature of the moon is 100 degrees Celsius. It is a grey-body, so its spectrum is dominated by black-body - e.g. it would be similar to spectrum of black-body with temperature lower than 100 degrees

Perfect reflector exists only in theory. But we still put (imperfect) reflective coating on spacecrafts.

Trying to follow your argument. Suppose we put absolutely reflective mirror on the orbit. Since its absolutely reflective its temperature will be 0 Kelvin (in theory, very low in practice - there is a reason solar bound spacecrafts are cove

Leaving this comment to make sure that others don't get confused by your response. 1. As you mentioned, the moon acting as greybody absorbs part of the radiation and scatters the rest. In the second sentence you mention that the moon&#

As I thought more of why one might get confused with this question is because one might miss that there are two effects here, not one. To have a combustion we need two things - light of high enough temperature and light of high enough energ

Interesting article. Right in many places. Wrong (possibly) in main conclusion. Entropy argument - correct in the sense that using radiation from black body we cannot use lenses to heat another body to the temperature higher than original.

Author does informative critique of 538. I'm not sure at all that it has anything to do with Silver vs Taleb twitter war though. It's more like premise for expressing author's own thoughts. However I totally dig what 538 does

From time to time I'm trying to switch to DDG. However I found its utility very limited by the fact that they don't show time-stamp for search results and there is no "Past Year" time filter.

Many on HN have vested interests in this program. Looks like they can make their voices heard: "The public can weigh in on the proposed rule December 3, 2018 through January 2, 2019."

The test confirmed GR. In particular the test results contradict theories with massive graviton and theories with "gravitational leakage" into the large extra dimensions of higher-dimensional theories of gravity.
