D fell into the same trap. D 1.0 started as a relatively simple language mixing OOP and basic template semantics and attracted many people from Java/C# backgrounds. But with D 2.0 they started to appeal more to C++ programmers. Advance

Wake up 8:50am. Start work at 9. After logging in and checking emails I usually go grab something to eat for breakfast. Then I don't eat anything else until around 2-3pm when my mom makes dinner. I work until 4pm then I take an hour br

One of the unofficial solutions used in Warcraft 3 was to spawn an illegal 3D model object in the corner of the map by a trigger as soon as the map begins, or during random spot checks during the map gameplay. The model would crash the game

Yeah, and now no matter what happens gets blamed on global warming... I mean climate changes (had to rename it because it's not warming as fast as they hoped for). Snow? Effect of climate changes. No snow? Effect of climate changes. No

D has had support for pre/post contracts and invariants for a long time, but I haven't seen them used in many projects. I think it's one of those niche uses, or something that sounds like it'd be fun to have but in the e

For me as a non-native English speaker it might be a case of English having confusing pronunciations. Pronunciation of loose and lose is very similar if not the same (I probably couldn't tell them apart). One might expect lose to be pr

Living in Europe this concept always seemed strange to me. I'm Polish and here it's normal to have couples living together while the parents are in the same house and even having sex together while parents are in the same house. T

From what I've seen in the modern game engines, the current state of the art seems to be executing a compute shader which does frustum and occlusion culling on GPU and dynamically generates an indirect argument buffer which gets drawn

Well, it's tricky, but many games do that and get away with it. In many games you have cars or guns which are obvious lookalikes of real life cars and weapons but have their names changed to avoid copyright infringements. Look at GTA.

I agree about riding the fence. The main reason D is so criticised for having a GC because it gives users a choice. I'd also rather have it either go full GC or full manual/semi-manual memory management, probably leaning more towa

It was based on the Neverwinter Nights 2 engine, so the similarities to NWN are expected. Actually, from my perspective, combat in W1 was a big improvement over the turn based click and pray combat of NWN.

If it doesn't count sales on GOG then it's not really reliable. GOG is owned by CD Projekt group, and one of the big points when releasing Witcher games was that people bought them on GOG so that all money went to the devs instead

I was going for a pistol start UV recently, and some levels are really hard, especially if you don't know where secrets are. On some levels it's hard to get that shotgun to get things going and the ammo is often scarce.

I miss devmaster and flipcode, both coming from the age of people writing their own engines. Unfortunately ever since Unreal and Unity went mainstream, the community of amateur game engine developers shrunk considerably.

It makes a massive difference. I find most math related code unreadable without operator overloading, such code is very common in e.g. gamedev. Just because people misuse operator overloading doesn't mean it should be removed from the
