This might sound dumb, and I'm not sure how to phrase this, but is there a way to measure the raw model output quality without all the more "traditional" engineering work (mountain of `if` statements I assume) done on top of

I always wonder, how do sites like this get their list of books and book metadata? Do publishers have an API? What about Amazon?

Instagram and WhatsApp (pre-acquisition) were both pretty legendary for how small their teams were vs how many users their apps had. Instagram had 13 employees, and WhatsApp had 55 employees at the times of their sales.

Could someone make a new company with the sole purpose of buying Chrome, then just sell Google back the same data they were already collecting?

Neat idea. I actually optimize the opposite. I want the most 3-day weekends I can have per year, as evenly spaced across the year as possible.

Is there anything similar to 8sleep that doesn’t have all the bells and whistles and doesn’t require an app? I don’t care about any of the tracking or alarms or whatever else besides the temp control.

As a counter strike player, I definitely shy away from the invasive anti cheat stuff… but I’d let valve inject it into my veins if it meant I could actually play and not suspect everyone of cheating all the time. Mostly because Valve has ea

Agreed, but unrelated to if Meta/Zuck are right or successful, thinking of the metaverse as just a VR play is wrong and also underestimates the scope of the project.

I think another mistake is people thinking metaverse = VR. Metaverse is a catch all term for the post-smartphone internet. Things like the RayBan glasses, Orion, that EMG wristband they showed at connect, etc. are all part of that.

This was insanely cool to watch. And on the first try! As a complete lay person with little to no physics knowledge: what stops the use of something dumb like a parachute, or even wings and landing gear, to "land" the booster? I a

Cool, thanks for the info! Definitely feels like they should just tax any asset sales needed to pay debts before the step-up happens, but I’m sure there’s a lot of push back against that idea.

So if I take a company public, and now own $10B in shares in a liquid stock (that I paid $0 for), take out a $1B loan, spend it all, and then die. What taxes need to be paid by the estate in that scenario?

I was under the impression that the estate has to pay the debts before the assets are disbursed, and the step-up basis occurs, thus collecting all appropriate taxes, just deferred until after death. This reddit post says the opposite is tru

My brain has a switch. I either want to try-hard or I want to relax. Try hard mode means I'm playing competitive multiplayer (cs2 is my current poison). Relax mode means I'm playing something single-player and easy. Unfortunately,

General LLM question: a lot of people ask specific knowledge based questions to LLMs. Isn't one of the defining features of modern NPL (and therefore LLMs) that it is designed to be non-deterministic? Meaning that it will intentionally

I am not sure framing it as work ethic is right. It is simply the cost of labor. Some people might argue American's are more or less productive the hours they are working, which means just because someone from Taiwan is willing to be o
