I agree with you. I suppose if peoples' goals don't include marriage and they are happy then what exactly is the problem? Saying these people fail because they don't get married feels like imposing a certain viewpoint on othe

This is what I felt as well. It just feels silly to rank people and tries to distill your relationships into a black-and-white that doesn't really match the greyness of the world. I would be upset if my partner wanted me to pick them o

I think you're just over-analyzing the words a bit. When I hear someone say "seldom duplicated elsewhere" I don't think they're convinced it's unique all throughout the world. They know there are millions of ot

It's really telling how simply he glosses over saying that like it's a perfectly normal thing for a "journalist" to do. That's pretty depressing.

You're not alone. Our experiences are similar. I'm not sure if that's comforting or not. The one saving grace for me is I do have enough savings to get me through a depression. I know that's not a luxury for everyone, th

I'd say the alternative is cloth reusable bags rather than paper. It's what I use. It's stronger and easier to handle than plastic; you just need to remember to bring one with you. My partner keeps one in her bag permanently

Double-entry is recording the credits and debits in a column and each account change happens on a row. So if I change the ledger in my parent comment to double entry it would look like: | account_id | credit_amount | debit_amount | | 1 | 0

Not sure I follow: you're claiming that double entry forces you to write things with better transactions in mind but the only difference between the two is having 1 vs. 2 rows. Say we have a hotel reservation system, it looks like this

This is just the ledger table. In your case you would have a payment event table with one row and a join table that connects that event with all the ledger rows. That's what Airbnb seems to do: https://medium.com/airbnb

I still don't understand why they encourage double-entry accounting for tech. In my experience entries like: | amount | payer_id | payee_id | | 100 | 1 | 2 | are more than sufficient. He uses Square, Uber, and Airbnb a
