The more interesting discussion for me would be around which large IT players we actually can trust?

Already happening. It's generally acceptable to describe Microsoft as a "convicted monopolist" (despite there not having been a criminal case). One wonders if people will also accept the labelling of Apple in such a manner wh

Thanks, this was great precisely because it's rare to see articles on design within an African context

Someone should man up at the next press opportunity to ask President Obama a leading question. Namely "Do you expect people to point the finger at the US Govt should something terrible happen to Mr Snowden"

I wonder if it's as simple as the old rule of the streets being at play here? That is, if the USA and Russia are rival gang members, they would each look poorly on "snitches" even if they are from the other side.

Yeah, the only reason I even clicked on the link is because I just assumed the majority would be tech businesses, eg mobile app developers. Guess im guilty of living in a bit of a bubble.

Quite the bubble Marco lives in. He's somehow managed to convince himself that the iOS7 UI is the one that others will try and copy. Backwards.

I'm pretty surprised by the fact that almost everybody in here is of the opinion that Nokias Windows Phone strategy is not working. Last I checked, selling more and more smartphones per quarter while slowly growing marketshare, especi

Must be annoying to be Google or Microsoft right now. There's something odd about all these platitudes for features and design decisions that were lifted from competing platforms. Where were all these posts when Windows Phone or Androi

I think it's more of a case of lay-people realising the irony in using say, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Whatsapp, BBM products and then complaining that someone somewhere is tracking them. Or is the assumption in here that corp

The only thing that jumped out at me is why Twist needed 6 million dollars worth of funding and why they have 10 employees. Really?

If we had a minimsft type blog on the major players in tech, I suspect we'd see that they all provide roughly the same type of positive AND negative experiences. It's cut throat out there.

If you look at the guts of the XBoxOne, or at least those of which we have been so far exposed to, it seems plainly obvious to me that this is a device for the long haul, meaning it will likely evolve to add new functionality/apis/ecosystem

I think there's a bit of lazy thinking here in these comments. There are XBox branded indie games on Windows Phone and Windows 8. Just because MS isn't publically saying anything doesn't justify jumping to this thread title's conclusion

If this is related to the console reveal, one has to wonder what possible metrics analysts used to compare Sony's PS4 announcement to Xbox One's.

Tragic, but I have to ask, is this on HN because it was an iPad? Would there have been a difference if the item involved was a watch?

Hey I'm just glad someone out there is doing /something/ instead of just being a talking head on TV all the time. Flaws and all, he's putting his money where his mouth is. Kudos.

So I'm curious about something. 1. Do ad blockers remove ads from YouTube? 2. Do the people in support of Google's stance use ad blockers?

So, fun fact. Ballmer has taken Microsoft from two cash cows...to roughly six in his time frame as CEO. Take a look at how many billion dollar businesses have come to fruition under his tenure. You might be surprised. The guy gets a bad rap

I highly doubt they'd change anything this late in the game though. For all intents and purposes the console will mostly be used while online so this whole saga sounds to me like "anonymous sources" got their wires crossed to begin with.

I've always been curious as to why Google doesn't at least rty to indemnify Android OEM's by working out some sort of agreement with Microsoft. I'm almost certain Apple and Microsoft have cross licensing agreements in place with regards to

This is awesome. Thank you so much. We in Africa are just as geeky as anywhere else in the world, but we tend to face problems unique to living on the continent. An HN-like site should yield some great "uncanny valley"-esque discussions :-)
