I like Helix, but it feels slow compared to Neovim. As in the actual scrolling performance. No one else has mentioned this, so I wonder if that’s an issue on my machine.

Does anyone know what happened to Zas editor [0]? I was a huge fan of the concept (a mac-assed app [1] with first class Rust support). In fact, I was such a fan that I bought it, which has turned out to be a rather foolish move. The people

The D std sumtype is actually super impressive after taking a longer look at it. Crazy how nice it looks to use for something that's not a language construct.

I don’t know about the others, but Rust absolutely has tagged unions. It’s just the enum type. edit: just checked the others. D has https://dlang.org/phobos/std_sumtype.html and C++ has std::variant. both seem a bit cl

The application processor core used in the SoC (the A53) is a decade old now. ARM’s progress on little cores is absurdly slow.

Nothing about GPUs technically forces you to code for specific architectures. It’s really no different than optimizing your code for a specific CPU.

I was referring to branding. To clarify my point, I believe having branding separate from Arm’s does not substantially indicate a desire to move away from Arm.

I think it’s simple enough to see why Nokia thought Windows would be the right choice. It was far more polished than Android at the time. It ran well on cheap hardware. And they would have Microsoft backing them.

The M1 Pro was not two M1s duct taped together. Their core configurations do not share the same proportions (8+2 vs 4+4). You may be thinking of the GPUs? Each step in M1 -> M1 Pro -> M1 Max -> M1 Ultra represents a doubling of GPU

If your child had no hope for improvement, why would he care whether or not you put rubbish in the bin? It seems he is at least somewhat actively working to improve the issues he perceives.

It’s depressing how few developers would even notice that performance degradation, let alone go back in and fix it.

Compared to other declarative UI frameworks like SwiftUI and Flutter I’ve heard practically nothing about Compose. Have many here had experience with it? How does it feel compared to other frameworks (for devs and users).
