Isn't that sort of what I said? For some people the trade off is worth it, some it isn't. Academia BS vs corporate BS is just one of the aspects.

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago… At the end of the day, industries are principally responsible for the health of their workforce overall. If there is a shortage, it is a failure of leadership. That is why “labor shortage” is

While this is true in the short term, it usually means the roles didn’t pay enough to keep the “funnel” open, so it’s an aspect of the same problem.

This is approximately true at the moment - but it's an open question how much that is worth to customers. The market will sort it out, but it's not clear that all of these "wrapper" startups have a workable business mod

Isn’t the point of the OP that this “top of the line” fridge has poor ergonomics and features relative to the 70 year old one? If true, that is at least interesting.

Lots of systems with bulky and expensive cooling (think MRI scanners, e.g.) could become vastly more accessible. Wildly improved efficiency on some sensors, antenna, motors, etc.

This works fine as long as you only do things for which someone else has written the c/c++ parts you need already. Really the premise of Julia is to make their life easier, while leaving yours equivalently easy (or better).

I always have the same gut reaction - then I realize I know people who lose at least 10k every 2-3 years on a new vehicle; one that they are financing and driving 2+ hours a day. So factor in gas and insurance etc., you can see it.

Some of it is hubris, some just naivety. It's very true that in a e.g. a "pure" software tech company, software engineers have much more power than they do in say an oil exploration company. This isn't surprising, it&#x

Of course it needs some leadership, but the multiple "C" levels are mostly just about ego management, very little to do with day-to-day or scope, in practice. Hell you don't need any C levels at all. The legal structure does

That argument works the other way around too, either way you are asking others to accommodate your preference. I think “let people choose” is the right idea at the “choose your job” or sometimes “choose your team” level.
