Curious: would you say that's reflective of Adobe's dev culture as a whole? I heard some similar comments coming out of a (claimed?) Lightroom developer about the motivations for that project...

It's the internet, therefore a significant percentage of the strong opinions about any topic will come from people who have little to no experience or competence in the area. Being HN, it probably skews a bit better that average. OT

This lacks imagination, the world is a more complex place than that. At any rate, a) this is not fiduciary duty and b) we hit diminishing returns a while ago.

That’s not really a big deal in this context. Getting over the 2011 change was a big jump, and basically makes modern c++ usable for many more projects. Lots of toolchains are pretty conservative also, 2017 is pretty new there. And much l

It’s a standard for the use of c++ in critical systems. Basically a guide to techniques and language features you can and can’t use (or how) and still have very predictable/controllable system behavior.

Not super helpful for c++. Note the previous MISRA std. predates “modern” c++, as do some others.

No, fiduciary duty is broader and more subtle than that. Your second statement is categorical enough to be silly. In some cases it is true, but if you think a bit on it you'll soon realized it's not hard to construct cases where

It's an interesting area, the 5th is actually really narrow (and of course other jurisdictions have something else). It's not obvious what can be compelled; e.g. it wouldn't seem like a court ordering you to defeat such a me

No knowledge of the specifics here, but usually the underlying cause is the same: we are running out of money, the business model doesn't work, and we don't have enough time, ideas or both to try anything else - at least no with a

This assumes facts not in evidence. Also doesn't seem to reflect a clear grasp of what fiduciary duty is.

Right, but that doesn't cover "and I booby trapped it". Why wouldn't you be open to charges in that case? Obstruction, destruction of evidence, contempt of court - such mechanisms exist in part to cover such cases.

Why is that surprising? The 5th isn't some sort of blanket gotcha, it's just there to curtail abuse.

No. The post represents a misrepresentation or misunderstanding of what fiduciary duty is, but that isn't surprising. It seems to be misapplied or misunderstood in the overwhelming majority of times it comes up in conversation.
