Unrelated, but yesterday I found out you can have two bools in C++ that are both true but do not equal each other, by reinterpret casting them from (u)ints. I think this was for the standard bool type too... Now I'm questioning the mos

Confusingly, 2K typically refers to 2560*1440. By that logic 4k would be a resolution greater than 3840*2160 of course, so I'm not sure how sound the naming convention is.

And for a differing point of view, I had a hell of a time finding 1440/1600p laptops with the specs I was after. Not 1080p, I'd like screen real estate, and not 4K, because fractional scaling on Windows is not that great. So many

4k is actually exactly 4 1080p screens' worth of pixels, unless you mean non-100% scaling.

Because Xbox exclusives are about console exclusivity, they release their games on PC day one. The other console makers are even less consumer friendly.

I'm comparing to consoles because that's their competition. They see PC as an additional platform that they also release to, and exclusives refer to console platforms, not PC.

Meanwhile Nintendo never releases their games on other platforms, and Sony pays off external studios for timed and permanent exclusives, while sometimes releasing internal ones on PC years later. Who exactly are they losing goodwill from?

With 1YoE I did most of that in about 3 months. Had a deadline of 6 months to get something functional to demonstrate the proposed new direction of the company, and I did just that. If I were to do it today I could probably rush it to a wee

That at least gives me some level of comfort. From what I remember it was Android 12 out of the box, but the problems started popping up after a while. First the bundled earphones carked it, then various issues with the phone. The UI feels

Lots and lots of issues for me. I've got an Optus one I believe. It's recently decided to not re-connect to Wi-Fis till reboot. Leaving home is now scary, thankfully I have 80GB data I use about 2 of on an average month. Another a

To be honest I'm not a front end developer, just learned that a few things on GitHub had issues outstanding about SK issues, and avoided them after the first run-in. Massive props to Svelte to allow me to finish my project while actual

Yeah, and it's a pleasure to use. Really the only issue I ran into was not realising SvelteKit doesn't support all Svelte functionalities, and you have to vet plugins at times.

Whole chain emulation + cab impulses are a thing, with digital modellers like Line 6's Helix or Fractal's FM9. I do get the impression you were referring to "analog" pedals, though even those are often more digital than

AFAIK Neobanks simply don't have a physical presence at all, and instead spend the money providing a more efficient service. I think ING has a customer service lounge or two, which just about disqualifies it. In practice, neobanks seem

Unit testing is not too rare in (modern) games. There's a comment on HN from a Rare employee going into how they do their testing, for example - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14802509 Edit: It's a 5 year ol

The M1 Max (8+2 cores) tops out at a CPU TDP of around 30W IIRC, on the 5nm node. These numbers aren't that unrealistic, are they? Intel isn't exactly known for power efficiency currently, aside from E-cores.
