That's odd, and to reassure you I would say that I personally would rather see somebody with a physical camera. That way I know I can avoid the area they're photographing if I don't want to be shot or just be aware I'm g

Not at all. Many people who want to work cannot find work and many (maybe most) people haven't found work they enjoy but do want to work. Those who are working the bare minimum in many cases are holding back efficiency where somebody m

For now, if you buy from Kobo store, you can use Adobe Digital Editions to extract the epub in a format ready for Calibre. Many websites sell epubs, with or without protection. The DRM is never usually that hard to break with Calibre. If yo

Dropping in popularity, but not relevance. Reading is still a completely different thing from a book, a stream of consciousness between a writer and a reader, than it is reading in almost any other format. The way we read online from websit

I feel so glad I retrospectively moved all of my ebooks away from Amazon at the beginning of the year. It was weird to hear just days after I exported it all that Amazon had announced they would no longer allow downloading for USB transfer.

Interesting article. Personally, I can't begin to theorise what the best way forward is. A Universal Basic Income system always sounds great, but where the funding comes from and what effect it's implementation would have, what ef

I'm curious as to why this would have a heating element and why that would be the default. I thought that a cool/cold bed was better for getting to sleep, since the body lowers its own temperature at night as part of it's nat

I've found thermal cooling with a bit of a dab of cold water on my body (sleeping above duvet), with a fan blowing on it for a few minutes is enough to get me to sleep.

I'll admit, despite hating the idea of most "smart" tech, I do still have the lights. The ability to change the colour (mostly warmness) through the day and turn on individual lights is pretty neat. I've been using an en

Most smart appliances are ticking timebombs, and most serve no real purpose. I get that sometimes they can be neat, and I myself went through a phase myself of building a "smart apartment". All I learned is the smart speaker assis

Pretty sure most of the quotes regarding the connection of porn and tech come from people who just watched that episode of Silicon Valley. A lot of it was clearly exaggerated for dramatic effect for a comedy TV show, and people run with it

The phone size is too limiting for a lot of work, and since most work involves writing in some form, it's a pain in the ass. A lot of the things you listed are utilities, which I'd agree the phone is great for. If any of the thing

15 pages on a virtual keyboard? So that would have been, what, 100 pages on a computer? I agree with the parent comment. Smartphones (and tablets) are useless for anything productive. They are entirely consumption machines. If somebody is a

"Sorry, I don't have [app/website name]. Could you send a screenshot?" The only other response is to fill your phone with 128 GB of every different social media app that exists.

I feel like these articles come up all the time now. The advice is always the same (it's not rocket science), but people are either slowly defeated by their addiction, or they just don't really follow the advice in the first place

Task management apps are crutches. If any part of their role is to inspire change in somebody, it's not going to happen. All that you do is make people reliant on them, and everything disappears when the app is no longer around. They&#

They're not just THE emergency services. They're YOUR emergency services. Nicer ambulances, faster response times, and better looking drivers. The bizarre things that our brains choose to remember. It must be that catchy jingle.

Not everybody wants to carry a smartphone around all the time. If the ID becomes about more than proving right to work, and becomes a daily carry, it's not hard to see the appeal of a government down the line tapping into an always on-

The issue isn't so much an identification system, or a digital identification system. It's just that we're waiting to see if there's going to be a non-smartphone implementation of this, and we're waiting to find out

I really hate Strava. Strava (and anything that replaces it in the same function) exists as a pointless social media layer on top of what Garmin/Suunto/Polar provide. There is really no reason to use it, and I've seen so many

That was Google Takeout! Although in retrospect I did find larger ZIP size options after doing the original export. But it filled Google Drive with 700GB of folders, so I just stuck with downloading the 2GB ones.

About a year ago I switched my news reading habits. Now I just read the news on a Sunday (unless I'm doing something much more exciting). For the remainder of the week I don't read the news at all. It's the way my grandad use
