Intel and AMD sell chips with some bad cache or faulty cores. What they do is disable the faulty components and sell it a lesser specced CPU. When manufacturing ramps up and kinks are worked out they might have to disable working parts to b

Thanks for catering to us noscript types. I appreciate you taking the time to make it work. edit: JavaScript the Evil Parts[1] is what made me start using NoScript and NotScripts. The web is safer and less annoying w/ NoScript and FlashBloc

Giving up on a blog that can't display the article in full without JavaScript. Progressive enhancement folks! (Web apps get a pass, but if your site only needs to display text it should not require JS.)

Apple would be in violation of the GPL for distributing the app with those restrictions tacked on. If I were them I wouldn't distribute GPL apps either. They would basically have to special case apps licensed w/ the GPL. Sadly I doubt it's

Well, I meant modifier keys that require holding more than one key at once. I feel that's a bit different than shift on the iPhone, but I'll concede that technically even the iPhone's shift is a modifier. My issue is then with simultaneous

I got to develop for and use a Pre at a previous job and it's subpar. It feels kind of cheap, the screen is too small (physically, resolution is fine), the hardware keyboard is worse than some software keyboards, and it's a little bit geeky

For some reason I'm still surprised when I meet a web developer who doesn't really know about XSS and SQLi. Part of the problem is people who code for a living . If you get to work, write code for 8 hours, then leave and never think about

xmonad is great and I used to miss it on OS X, but I've grown to appreciate SizeUp and Divvy for OS X. You get tiling functionality when you want it, and only when you want it. It's slightly more involved than xmonad but only slightly. And

Of course not! But if there's no use case then this is getting an awful lot of buzz for no real reason other than Ajaxian running a story on it, considering that it's not that new. http://blog.nihilogic.dk/2008/05/compression-using-canvas-

You can be just as lonely in a small town if not more so. At least in a big city like NYC you're basically guaranteed to find people with similar interests, no matter what they are. In a smaller town it's far easier to become an outlier. Es

Outside of our world of geekery I see the odd person switching to a Mac. Even more rarely I see people switch to Linux, but it happens. What I don't see are people switching from Linux or Macs to Windows. Geek or otherwise. Not one.

If someone has the luxury of choice they would probably opt for a real DSL, or a language such as Haskell that lets you define real operators. Also, not everyone who uses Ruby likes crap like this. Just as not everyone who uses Python disli

Since when does the shape of a city define it as being "real" or not? Maybe I'm missing something. Any modern city that had all that prime beach land waiting to be developed would probably grow in a similar manner. Now that Dubai is rather
