To dispel misconceptions: from the top of the readme: "scala-ts is a simple tool which can generate TypeScript interfaces and classes from Scala case classes." Not really what I call a compiler. This is more a REST endpoint consum

That would be amazing for languages that compile to JavaScript and have to support 64-bit integers. In the Scala.js compiler, we have managed to get pretty close (around 3x) the speed of Int32 arithmetics, but a native implementation would

You can go with the Diode [1] library for an Elm/Redux- like architecture. And with that you don't need to all the way down to cats or scalaz (although you sure always can if you want to). [1] https://github.com/o

I won't argue about the documentation of Scala in general. But a post in the thread you are referring to was specifically mentioning Scala.js as not having the same issues.

Hum, that's because you don't actually need to install Scala.js per se. sbt will download and use it for your project automatically. I agree that the way it is presented on that page is confusing, though. I'll add some expl

Could you elaborate on specific points that would require improvements? Most feedback I receive says it's good. If those of you who think it's poor only tell us "it's poor", there is nothing we can do to improve it.

The Scala Center [1] is the leading not-for-profit sponsor for Scala. Lightbend [2] is the company maintaining the main compiler. [1] https://scala.epfl.ch/ [2] https://www.lightbend.com/

Experience with the Scala.js ecosystem suggests that it is very well suited to cross-compiling existing code after the fact. All the major libraries of the Scala/JVM ecosystem have been ported to Scala.js by now, several of them onl

Not only FP. Lots of languages are self-hosted. So actually most modern parsers are not written in C, since they are written in the language they parse.

Well, in SemVer or Monotonic Versioning, if you make an unintended breaking change, say in version 2.3, you've already broken your versioning scheme anyway. So it does not really matter whether your fix (which is incompatible wrt. th

It's worth noting that Scala.js started this way, and is now mature and used by thousands of developers. I foresee a similar path for Scala Native.

I would explain the difference as: @native says please implement this Scala method of this Scala class in C, respecting all the JVM calling conventions and memory model. @extern says call this C function that never knew about Scala or the

Scala.js does a much better dce than Webpack, or any other JavaScript optimizer (including Closure). It does it at the method level (not top-level function/class level), and can also leverage the type system to do a better job at it.

Unlikely, because Scala.js already has the reductions that are brought on the JVM only in 2.12. Scala.js has been emitting tiny wrappers around JS closures for more than 2 years. (and no, that's not because of Closure; it's beca

We are thinking about that: https://github.com/scala-js/scala-js/issues/2175 But, as other comments note, this is a non-trivial problem.

I wonder how much of your comment follows from past experiences with other compile-to-JS languages. Scala.js solved all the problems you mention. * Performance is on par with hand-written JavaScript. * The compiler and optimizer are incre

Only comments on the commits are lost. Comments on the Files tab of the PR itself are kept and you can "View outdated diff". In our project we exclusively use comments on the Files tab precisely for that reason.

Scala also has something similar, called the community build: https://github.com/scala/community-builds It does not contain everything, but (open source) authors are encourage to add their library to the mix.
