I feel this is entirely justified. There are a lot of people on HN who are very much in favour of a minimum of regulation in these sorts of markets, but the Dutch government has democratically opted to put rules into place for, amongst othe

Shame is that at many sites it’s not really opt-in. If you disagree, you get a lecture on why the site is obliged to track you and then you can accept anyway or leave. A cookie wall, if you will. Examples: * http://tweakers.net * http:/

I wish I could do the London tube but it’s cyclic. Even for Amsterdam, route 50 was a bit of a kludge as you’ll see in the tree. Here’s an image with tag/branch names for the lines: http://i.imgur.com/vXhLYry.png

I think the WTF was more about the requirement itself – why would the game require a retina device? In any case, congratulations on shipping your game!

They see to have made a really nice custom styled app while still remaining true to modern Android conventions. Well done. It would be cool if banks could license their code (for a hefty fee) because the apps by banks here in thee Netherlan

It’s like when you discover a new artist you like and you work through the back catalogue. Today’s news has made lots of people discover Swartz simultaneously.

I can read it and it does appeal to me. The flow and explanation is really good. I’d like some more screen shots but then the lack of them might make people more likely to sign up and see for themselves. Bookmarking for later. By the way, I

It would, but Apple did the same thing when they switched to Intel and worked out pretty well. They even shipped all the PowerPC binaries for a while, together with an emulation layer, so you could run old apps on Intel (albeit slowly). It'

I agree that people do not have “the right” to use Facebook, neither are people obliged to. That doesn’t meant that you can’t just not use Facebook. Social networks, in particular Facebook, have become a central part of social interaction.

One problem I see with low cost custom-built gaming boxes is that the Windows licence takes up a massive share of the price. I hope that Valve’s push to Linux will lead developers there as well but I don’t see the big publishers jumping on

I don’t agree with the point on convergence. It seems clear to me that Apple is not turning OS X into iOS. It’s still very much a WIMP interface best suited for keyboard and mouse. Windows 8 is a good example of PC/tablet convergence, and h

I have the same issue. I’m on a Nexus S as well and it’s starting to show its age with the latest operating system and apps. But the form factor is great, and all these newer flagship phones are huge.

Your screen's aspect ratio doesn't really matter. Desktop apps work like they used to. "Modern" apps expand to fit the space given. The minimum resolution for such apps is 1024x768, which is 4:3.
