I think that's a vision of OO that not many OO programs that I've seen actually follow. It's more common to see OO programs where object methods represent the computations, not the whole objects, while the bundled data is us

Thanks for that synopsis, when put that way it seems similar to one of the takeaway messages from the talk "Constraints Liberate, Liberties Constrain", especially the early example in the talk of making a description language for

It looks like this difference might just be a fluke, normal sample variation. Tom's hardware could not replicate and AMD has weighed in affirming there's no difference with Enterprise versions if same build numbers are used: h

Doesn't that "just drop down to C" get complicated when you need to pass callback functions though? Users will want to write them in the original language for convenience and to use closures safely and easily. Wouldn't

Just a warning for those visiting the US - crosswalks will only give you a false sense of security in many parts of the the country (bigger cities possibly excepted), many drivers pay 0 attention to them. Had a car narrowly miss me last we

This loss is particularly bad to me because I don't know if there is anything else that can trigger so much wonder. I grew up in an area where science wasn't much known or very well respected, and even controversial. But seeing th

That's not the point, the point is an instant is not a date. And common ways of getting the date from an instant are likely to give you the date of the instant interpreted in your current timezone for your computing env (which is of

its ok for instants but not dates: receiving side may truncate the instant to a date in a different timezone env than the sender (easily done and will NOT be UTC by default in many envs) -and then you may have an off-by-one on the day.

Putting the functions in a separate schema (ie namespace) per version will prevent having to name mangle the function names themselves. Then you just manage the schema names for versioning and adjusting the search path can make it work im

First, correctness first. Second, correlated subqueries in selects really aren't noticably slow at all in my experience (Postgres, Oracle) when they're really needed, meaning alternatives are as slow or slower. Especially compared

I might misunderstand, but I think the join just isn't the right approach for that sort of child record counting, ie. counting records from two or more independent child tables associated with your rows (if that is what you're wan

Well having shortcuts to stuff that you don't want to have to trackpad up to and click every time, or remember keyboard chords for. Same purpose as function keys, but without the memorization necessary to use them.

Regarding the work-related messaging, sounds like neither iMessage nor SMS is suitable for the job, and one of the many cross platform full featured messaging apps should be used instead.

Agree about that. And I'm not wild about the idea of having to do a special incantation before using the package system anyway, myself.

FWIW before using Pkg.<something>, you usually need to do "using Pkg" first, that may have been the issue with the 'Pkg not defined' error.

For text you can just concatenate a number on to whatever fixed text you want which is usually good enough for my testing. Also from text you can construct other types so a combination of these should cover most needs.

If you mean dates as just dates (no time part) then I agree 100%! So many environments think that if a date is good, then a date+time must be even better so just have the latter (and perversely call them "dates"). We'll jus

I'd call type classes a non-OO form of polymorphism, it doesn't become OO just because you have polymorphism (if that's what you're implying). I think of OO as late-as possible dispatch, whereas type classes are compile

TS is a bit more powerful than it appears here, because string literal values are recognized at the type level, so can be checked by the compiler when distinguishing cases. See for example: "Discriminated Unions" at https:/

It's not called side effects there because there are none, in the modern mathematical formulation at least. The goal is to identify solution functions, and those are just sets of ordered pairs or something similarly inert.

You see the template and css as literals in little Angular examples, but the normal case is that the literals are just names of the separate html and (s)css file names.
