From a recent Gmail -> Fastmail switcher, who imported all emails from Gmail - Fastmail's UI is far faster to use, viewing emails is instantaneous, loading a folder with 30,000 emails takes a second at most. They have infinite scrol

Funnily the spam filter is what finally got me off Gmail. It developed a serious false positive problem with a couple of mailing lists I'm subscribed to - and yes the address was in my address book and all the other usual 'fixes&#

I've actually found Fastmail is better at spam filtering. I had a problem with many false positives on Gmail, but Fastmail is doing alright. You can configure the spam filter to be more aggressive as well.

I've always found Gmail reliable, but I've seen plenty of performance issues in the last year. I now have personal email on Fastmail and work on Google Apps. The difference is quite striking. It'll take a good 20 seconds befo

I have recently made the switch from Gmail to Fastmail as well, and I couldn't be happier. They don't have all the features (calendars are coming soon!), but they also don't have Google+. In my experience it's a lot fast

I just purchased a Toyota Yaris. The official figures for the 1.3L engine give 5.7L/100km for manual and 6.3L/100km for the automatic. Now in a high-end car with a sequential gearbox this is different, but for a small town car whe

After 10 years in the industry I relate to that second paragraph far too well. What makes programming hard is that people who aren't programmers don't understand what we do.

Most bullies are power-tripping on the effect they have. Standing up to them is unexpected, they don't know how to react, and quickly back down. It's not worth the risk to put up a fight when you can just pick on someone else. It

malloc_size won't give you the size of the array though, it'll give you the number of bytes malloced. malloc is free to return any number of bytes, so long as it's at least the size requested.

It really depends on the number of customers. If you have 1 million $10 customers and 10,000 have a problem the cost of losing their business isn't amazingly huge, especially as most of them probably won't switch vendors. When you

Odd, on my Mid 2012 rMBP a quick press does nothing. Doesn't bother me though, I've never accidentally hit the power button, but my normal typing position keeps that whole row of keys outside my finger range.

At home I have a NZ$150 single-boiler espresso machine and a $80 conical burr grinder. I buy 50g bags of coffee for $10 from the local coffee roaster, which works out to around $0.50 per coffee, around half the price of the nespresso pods.
