Fear of loss to competitors embracing a technology creates a fear driven adoption. Let me ask you this: is any technology worth so much break-neck adoption without first seeing clear evidence of ROI? No. The adoption is irrational.

I think Google is doing the right thing. Using LLMs for coding is the shiny low hanging fruit but it isn't what is going to make the tech ubiquitous. That'll be finding applications of it to real data problems. Google knows LLMs a

My point was that if training data + encoding/training = model with emergent behaviour The emergent behaviour is in the training data and/or encoding/training. So while I agree it is emergent from the complexity, it isn'

Not to be pedantic but the emergent properties are in the training set, and thus the model and algorithm. There's no magic coming from the universe. What makes the behavior emergent is that it can't be predicted at training time.

Perhaps in the first order, but when premiums go up and go up across all policies due to the acceptability of litigation... Everyone pays eventually. Its a bit like saying driving dangerously is OK because you have insurance. Until everyone

Because the US is a third world country cosplaying as a developed nation. Much like their president is a corrupt and morally bankrupt fool cosplaying as a politician. It doesn't matter in the US. Just pretend.

As I understand it you can, in fact node 23 has a type stripping feature. I could be wrong.

I mean, all typescript does is serve no purpose except for an LSP and documenting type intention really. It isn't much different to Python type annotation.

It doesn't make any sense tho. Typescript is nothing much to do with runtime. It's a build/dev concern. To get JS from TS you're mostly removing the type annotations. Theres no reason to ship TS to an end user browser.

In a compassionate society with community mindedness people are less likely to use tools like this for mindless hurt. Our current culture isnt aligned with compassion due to individualism and greed. You sound like you've given up on nu

I agree here. People are too quick to levy adult punishment and morality against children. Teach them compassion and empathy. Teach them why their actions hurt.

This is another example of treating normal behaviour as criminal. Like banning VPNs or age verification. How about we undo the radical individualism that has rotted out any compassion and empathy from society in the pursuit of greed? Not as

I've found JS/TS Web stacks equally lacking and ugly after Django. I'm totally spoiled by a decade in Django. Just let me build a CRUD app, on the server, that spits out HTML without an excessive swamp of unmaintained nonsens

Well it might prefer libraries but the culture around basic DX things like ORMs is toxic. Just write the SQL yourself they say, until they themselves optimise to a half baked in-house ORM of their own.

I worked in a codebase like this. The load time was insane. We would also constantly need to put imports in function heads to effectively lazy import due to the massive risk of circular imports. We also had dynamic imports so tracking the c

AI slop causes additional noise on the mailing list. Your suggestion is to use more AI to filter the noise? How about we just reduce the noise?

Also yes Protocols can be used to type check quacks, bringing it more inline with the Go examples in the blog. However my point is more from a SOLID perspective duck typing and minimal dependency interfaces sort of achieve similar ends... M

I'm saying that at some point declaring the minimal interface a caller uses, for example Reader and Writer instead of a concrete FS type, starts to look like duck typing. In python a functions use of v.read() or v.write() defines what

Don't forget AI being used to replace friends. AI being used for validation in place of a varied social group is scarier than anything I see on the jobs market. Asking ChatGPT if breaking up with your girlfriend is a good idea or not?

I agree with this. There's so much snake oil at the moment. Coding isn't the hard part of software development and we already have unambiguous language for describing computation. Human language is a bad choice for it, and we alre
