When VP is mentioned I think people automatically assume hairy nests of nodes, lines, trees. Slow and inefficient input schemes. Text-based representations have tremendous upsides (granularity, easy to input, work with existing tools, easy

This isn't a jab at Mozilla, but it's actually kind of amazing that throughout this whole time Mozilla has had only two (arguably one) large, successful, consumer-facing projects. I think this says something about Mozilla or large

My living depends on selling small-batch, high quality, independently made woodworking items and I've struggled with this. Selling on Amazon feels like you're relinquishing control over your product, much more so than Ebay or Etsy

Anyone who had tried to make anything, especially anything original and with mechanical components knows this to be true. Even simple machines require a lot of forethought, planning, and iteration to be able to perform consistently and reli

Yup. Motels aren't necessarily sex related. They're just cheaper hotels where you might only stay for a night or two getting to your destination. Whereas a hotel is some place you'd usually stay during a vacation.

I'm skeptical of that trope also. I remember that stack overflow fizzbuzz post, but I never encountered a interview candidate so bad that they couldn't program fizzbuzz. I've also never been asked to do anything as basic as c

Quit, I'm still under 30 years old. I was a decent programmer but never a good employee. After running the cycle of finding a job, saving up for a year, quitting, running out of money, I ended up quitting for good. Woodworking is somet

Probably the conventional way. Work for a good paying company and keep doing it for a few years. Spend very little. Move up or to a different company when you can. This is the safest way probably. I don't work in tech anymore though an

So this is what HN has come to? Why is this downvoted? I'm interested as well and would like to read more depth in this comment. Where's the source? The two other replies to this comment are not related whatsoever.

And yet NYC still has some of the highest rent in the country. For someone making 60k or less it doesn't matter much if the rent is 2k or 3k a month, it's all totally unaffordable anyway and those people are either pushed further
