My partner and I regularly work physically next to each-other, even though we both have separate office spaces. It does help stay focused and it's a great change of pace. It is an interesting idea to invite friends over to work with! I

(I'm a contributor to Perspective) As a Firefox user I definitely want to see better FF support here! The first step is to get a good test suite. Currently our tests only run on Chrome. So after we get tests running on Firefox, we can

Andy Wingo's blog is awesome. A great resource for those interested in PL design and development. I learned a bunch of stuff about delimited control from this blog, among other things. Also, Andy implements delimited control in this po

Maybe you should watch the video and realize that it can't be live and let live. By you living with your truck, we die.

How does Mercurial differ in this way? I always figured mercurial was just a 'better UI', but using similar internals.

Looks awesome, I think this is a great mix with prompt engineering. It seems this does not work on Firefox? I could only draw on about half the canvas and it was pretty buggy. Dont support the chrome monoculture!

This seems to be a great resource! However, when I looked at prices, seats are quite expensive. Does anyone have any advice for finding cheaper train tickets?

I appreciate your effort! I was loathe to leave Signal, but I can't support them after all of the dumb stuff they've been doing. They also added some sort of crypto a couple years ago? The default android messenger is good enough

I think people should look at Ascent [1]. I love the way it embeds Rust seamlessly. It's like JSX for Datalog/Rust. [1]: https://github.com/s-arash/ascent

I think that taking options and results usually is an anti pattern. You want to handle the errors at creation-site and not propagate it to another function. Of course this is just a minimal example... Others have talked about the real point

Having `true/false/on/off/null`, 4 different comment styles and 5 numerical types screams anything except for 'Simple' to me. It may be a fine language, but it seems like it needs a new name. Maybe 'YAYAML

I think Rust does a _ton_ of bikeshedding. Here is one example[0] showing how much of a discussion is required for a relatively simple QoL feature. [0]: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/62358

"There may be something better in the future, so we shouldn't change anything ever" is not a very strong argument. No one thinks Rust is the end-all-be-all. They simply think that Rust is better than C, quite easily at that.

Why aren't there any bold laptop manufacturers? This is a 2021 laptop that uses USB-A primarily, a meh panel, and no particular standout design features. Why do I have to get a mac if I want actually good design? System76 should take a

Using `unwrap` is not something that can come back to bite you in a long term (other than API design wise). Replacing it is dead easy, as the compiler helps you. Also, you can replace it with a call to `expect` to give a relevant message to

If you translate your language to use Continuation Passing Style [0], then you get tail-calls for every function, which effectively obviates the stack. This technique is used by functional language compilers, see Compiling With Continuation

I don't know about PL/I but Prolog kind of cheats, in my opinion, about the reserved words. It is very strict about naming conventions, which is (IMO) worse than having reserved words.

Python is not specified but CPython serves as a reference implementation. Python has _numerous_ alternative implementations. Jython in Java, IronPython in C#, PyPy in Python (kinda...), and even more lesser-known implementations.
