Valid point. But why delineate differences of opinion across language lines when there are all sorts of reasons to disagree. Whether the disagreement is political, philosophical, regional, cultural, seems like using language as the key diff

I always thought it was a bit bizarre that different language editions of Wikipedia contain different information. It seems the focus should be more on translation than content creation. Maybe that isn’t practical with the current structur

I do like the idea of a standardised set of icons for user interfaces. Beyond a certain set of core elements, which isn’t very large – search, cancel, arrows, settings – icons tend to only really serve a purpose after they are learnt for wh

I agree variable fonts won't be some magic bullet for file size, but I suppose cached versions of variable fonts means two different sites could use different axis values and the user would only have to download it the first time round

That’s what I thought as soon as I read the title. Aunt Hillary, the anteaters favourite companion. The anteater describes to Achilles how emergent properties of intelligence are coded into the movements of the ants in the network. Great bo

Either... Kiwi fruit is best savoured with the skin on, after having thoroughly washed it. ...or... Time is actually speeding up, which is why everyone feels like time speeds up as they get older. The only reason this is better than “what i

Yep this definitely comes across as a cheap way of getting more clicks/follows rather than actually being useful to the reader. This guys heretical belief seems to be that self-promotion isn’t tacky.

Gravity’s Rainbow was one of the toughest reads I’ve slogged through, but the depth and scale of it are nicely counterpoised with some downright hilarious scenes. I didn’t find Infinite Jest nearly as difficult.

I wonder if the default values for offset and thickness will respect those declared in the font. And also whether sub-pixel values are allowed? I don’t know how many fonts declare these values, but it would be a shame not to use information

I feel like one reason we’re “stuck with modernism” is that it’s an umbrella term that points to many distinct forms which are reacting against some tradition. In this sense, it’s a pretty useless term, as distinct periods will always be re

As an Australian I’m stoked to see NPR cite research happening in universities here. Also interesting to think about how you would possibly conduct a blind study for diet.

Maybe deliberate, but I don’t think it’s a good idea. This is an optimisation where the user actually sees the artefact/degradation. And that font would otherwise be used over the whole session. Excluding bold copy on the page or using

Honest question, but why is React unique in offering component encapsulation? I see this more of a structural paradigm than something a framework allows for or limits against.

I once had the bright idea to use a backslash as a one character password for my girlfriends computer, thinking it would provide amazing convenience – a single character, just above the enter key. Turns out this doesn't work very well,

This is especially true for languages with a lot of syntactic cruft. What immediately stands out is the equal focus given to the less important characters like brackets and braces. Still, it's a novel idea.
