Ah, it seems like it can only handle so many users. If you keep refreshing, you'll get lucky eventually (I'm on FIOS too).

Interesting, thanks, I'll consider using that next time I'm building a prototype that will eventually become a Rails app. But who knows, I might write a rails-app-exporter for StaticMatic just for fun :D

Relating to Haml/Sass, you may have heard of the ruby gem StaticMatic. It's a great tool that lets you use Haml/Sass to building quick, static prototypes. In fact, I loved the concept so much that I began improving upon it myself[1], adding

For those interested, I made a simple multiplayer Facebook card game[1] for a client using the same technologies, plus Redis and CouchDB. The source is unobfuscated, so you can check it out if you want. [1] http://apps.facebook.com/alloutc

What's the problem? Most of the difference between success and failure is marketing. This is a great way to take advantage of the momentum of his previous application.

I think this viewpoint can't be stressed enough. Evaluating schools based on what percentage of their students do well is a very slippery slope to encouraging schools to lower their standards to the lowest common denominator.

Very fun. The game has just enough aesthetics to make every letter typed satisfying. I could even feel my typing improving over time. I like the concept of the different ships, but the game doesn't get hard enough fast enough. I played thro

I just graduated from UTCS this past May. It's completely true that UT's CS program teach you real world programming. But that's completely besides its purpose. UT's CS program is about the fundamentals . Every required CS course teaches k

I like the idea, but instead of watching desktops, why don't you try monitoring web activity instead? At least for me, procrastinating means browsing the web. For privacy concerns, you could open source the monitoring tool, but still charge

That's absolutely correct. I think too many people have a misconception of what haml is good for. Personally, I use haml for all my rails view layouts. Anything more complicated than a wrapper div gets rendered in a separate .erb partial. T

Slightly off topic, but I'm considering building an web app where startup founders can casually communicate. Founders would be placed into small groups, probably 3-5, and each member of a group would have a "stand up" meeting each day, talk

It certainly doesn't fit every application, but it's possible to write a write-controlled app using validation functions[1]. I've written an introduction to using Evently and CouchApp if you're interested in seeing how that works[2]. [1] h

I don't think your analogy holds. In fact, the piano has an incredibly intuitive interface. Push buttons farther to the right, and they get higher in pitch. Push buttons farther to the left, and they get lower in pitch. I would argue that t

First off, I love the interface. It's simple, clean, and gets straight to the point. That said: * What's the difference between inbox and a new list? My first guess would be inbox holds all tasks assigned to me. * Clicking the "attach label

I know it's easy, and even sensible to dimiss this as completely overpriced, but it's concepts like these that really get me excited. I see so much potential in this sort of device communication, it makes me anxious just thinking about it.

Same here, though this is my last semester. At least, I hope that statement is true, as I don't think my classes have been getting their fair share amount of attention lately...
