I'm not sure that we will ever find the one silver bullet. IMO, you need to choose the right tool for the job and sometimes that means leaving your favorite programming language behind for a project or two. Speaking as an Erlang advocate it

Just this morning I wrote and email to the 3 other people involved in the project I was working on explaining why I was leaving and what I felt the correct split up was. I had been doing the majority of the work and the rest of the team was

Great article, but it seems to point out the flaws in some languages and how to avoid or go back and fix them ... Isn't it better to start with a language that naturally helps you avoid those problems and reduces the need for re-factoring i

Armstrong's book is the single best source for documentation about Erlang I have found so far. I consider it a must read for anyone who is going to be looking into using Erlang. I had a beta copy of it about two months before it was publish

Several years ago I decided that I wanted to find a language that was more powerful and elegant then anything I had worked with before. Having read much about the benefits of Lisp from Paul Graham, I obviously wanted to give it a try. I per

This is the point where great content recommendation comes into play. Read the information about the NetFlix prize that has been on the front page or just go over to http://netflixprize.com for more info. This is one of the aspects I've b

I've been trying different things on the Internet since about 1995. Back then I was trying to create online storage, which turned out to host more adult files then anything else. Finally gave that one up due to bandwidth costs. After that I

I agree, this story is completely disheartening. The fact that ego's can get in the way or a better more elegant design is basic human behaviour. I'd hope to think that anyone who is designing a product for their end user would be Abel to r

I'm not sure that Netflix will be able to compete with the convenience of dropping off movies at a blockbuster store simply with a price cut. I'm a loyal Netflix customer and I walk past a BlockBuster 3 or 4 times a week with my Netflix env
