I need that, too! (Why can't FedEx be bothered to ring the doorbell?) I sometimes wonder if instead of video, it might be easier to do audio analysis to detect the sound of the UPS truck, which tends to be rather unique in my neighbo

I get the impression that most people I've worked with in the CE world come from non-CE programming backgrounds, so I doubt there are major obstacles. The biggest help would be familiarity with C/C++ programming, and being comfor

What aspect of systems programming would you like to be enlightened about? I do a lot of consumer electronics programming, which I think falls into that category. I grew up learning programming on a Commodore 64, where getting anything don

I was a little unsure of which category to choose for my work as a developer of consumer electronics software. "Embedded" means different things to different people -- some people reserve the term for microcontroller-level device

I see similar messages fairly often. I believe "Success" is what you get when you use strerror() to translate an errno of 0 (success) on a Linux/UNIX machine with English localization. So this contradictory message is what

Perhaps even more niche, but I remember listening to Internet Talk Radio [1] audio downloads back in 1993 or so. It's amazing how many good ideas can simmer for years before the conditions are right for them to take off. [1] http:&#x

I'd be curious to hear what the challenges are. Is it simply that signal strength is too noisy to be used reliably? (I.e., interference, multipath, attenuation when the subject walks behind furniture, etc.) I was attending a theatre

I'm a little disappointed that (from a brief glance at the documents) it doesn't appear to support the 5 Ghz Wi-Fi band. I wonder if it's a power issue, or just limited space on the PCB. The 2.4 Ghz band gets kind of crowde

I used Word Writer 4 on the C64. Its spell-check system avoided loading the entire dictionary into memory or using an on-disk structured random-access database. Instead, it simply sorted the words in your document first, then stepped thro

It looks like the only way this land could be remotely considered a town is its history -- there was once a post office and 40 people living there. That was apparently enough to get its name on the highway sign. But it's not an incor

Thanks for sharing this. I hadn't previously stumbled across JNA, but it seems to support Android, so maybe it would be a good way to use general-purpose Rust libraries within Android apps without writing a lot of new JNI shim code.
