I don't think Project Ara be a major breakthrough of any kind, yet I'm still very excited about it. This (hacking for hacking's sake) is exactly what I imagined HN would get excited about, but instead I only hear some obvious

It's ugly, but if I were in the market for a smartwatch/fitness tracker this might be the only one I'd bother with. As I find myself saying more and more, I love this new Microsoft. It's insane how much harm a single man

I work in a startup that does zero knowledge email, so I think about stuff like this a lot. Would it be possible to do the work at "runtime" i.e. process the emails on the user's device?

I read the title and realise I'm in the exact same situation: I have a wife, a 2nd year-old son, and my wife is 5 months pregnant. And tomorrow my startup finds out whether we got into YC W15!

Thanks for the clarification. I've met Aral and consider him a very smart guy, I was just commenting about my gut feeling in situations similar to this. I'm happy to learn I'm wrong in this case. :)

Startups led by non-engineers just leave a bad taste in my mouth for some reason. This comment definitely evokes that feeling.

+1 If it doesn't hinder runtime performace +/- 100MB of disk space is fairly benign. I understand how smaller images would be useful, but for my use case it doesn't help much.

Hey tptacek, I'm CTO at a young zero knowledge email startup, and while I'm a proficient crypto user , I'd like to learn more about security and cryptography in general. Do you have any tips for me? Thanks!

Sorry for the fairly off-topic rant, but this is something I had on my chest for quite a while. I love how, in the discussions around the NSA, nobody brings up the fact that American tax money are also used to pay for it (not to mention oth
