I like it for that reason. It's one of the few shows that we can watch as a family with the kid laughing at the kids and me paying more attention to the parents. I'm always impressed by TV or movies that can pull that off, usuall

This actually resonates a bit with my own thoughts from these comments. If we assume a drug abuser is doomed for death in the next 6 months. But by using them as slave labor in terrible conditions for 3 years guarantees they will live to o

Yes and we used to kill witches for being... different. That is to say, to any sane modern human, curing gayness is nothing like curing drug addiction. We have to do something. Because whatever we've been doing for the past two decade

If you talk to a parent of a child who OD'd, most commonly of fent these days, they all have this thought. What if I took them somewhere remote where there are no drugs and didn't let them leave? My heart hurts for them, but I hav

I worked at companies using Gitlab for a decade, and got familiar with runners. Recently switched to a company using Github, and assumed I'd be blown away by their offering because of their size. Well, I was, but not in the way I'

If my memory serves right, it's actually the Vado area in NM than El Paso proper. Whole city stinks to drive through, and on windy days(which is almost every day), your car gets peppered with dung filled straw blowing across the road.

I've only ever been to Seattle to visit in summertime, and largely agree with everything. It's probably the prettiest place I've ever been (weather/greenery wise). But I already know I can't handle the greyness of

I'd argue Halo 2 set the standard for online matchmaking. I don't think younger people understand just how popular xbox live/halo 2 were in that era. Probably how us olders underestimate just how popular stuff like Fortnite

One can just run 'sudo updatedb' to refresh it. Super fast if it's already on a schedule. I think mine is set to update every system update, so I just have a habit of running that before I use locate each time.

This is a common pain point. Write in a language that makes sense for the project. Then people tell you that you should have used this other language, for reasons. Use a compression algo that makes sense for your data. Then people will te

It seems weird but realizing one supports the other it kinda makes sense. For example, Discover spun out from Sears attempts at having an in house credit card. Ally started as a financing division of GM. In both cases, you'd think si

I'm always amazed by regional differences in pricing. I had a company(wrongly) tell me I needed a new septic tank and drainfield installed, and quoted me out at 7800. Which is way, way more work and parts than a sewer line.

That's also a problem in C land, of course, perhaps with less total sprawl. Yeah, it has new features, but you're stuck working on a C89 codebase, good luck! I don't know a great answer to that. I almost feel like languages

There's no real battle, except for language zealots. Go gets a ton of things right for easy programming, and presents a super readable language with concurrency as a forethought. Rust take a more conservative approach with a focus on c
