Eero used to be pretty close. Years ago, I used to stalk the subreddit despite never owning an Eero just because the (US based) devs would often drop knowledge bombs. AFAIK they wrote the entire software stack in house. I have no idea if

There's zero chance I'd put some random device from anyone, even a friend, on my network - especially if I knew that was its purpose. Sounds like a huge liability. Do people really do this?

The landscape is a little different now than then. At the time(and really, even now) people would get their eyeglasses from their local provider. Who cares, insurance probably covers some or all of it. Even getting contacts or glasses as

A tale as old as time. A long time ago I worked in DDoS prevention and the bulk of our first customers were competing gambling sites and online eyeglass retailers. Why? Because they were all paying people to DDoS each other. Kinda silly,

Same. Brave on Linux, no VPN. I didn't at face value care too much, as I find the site cancerous, but it did make me realize how many times I click links into it. I can't wait until a worthy successor appears.

Fair point! Oddly enough the pamphlets they kept sending out focused on irritability, poor grades, confusion, sleep problems, etc, and never mentioned the possibility of being fragged by a wayward jet. I say that only partially in jest, loo

True, but rather doubtful. UPS has owned that part of the airport for longer than I've been alive. As a kid, yeah sometimes a plane comes over but nobody really seemed to care. Fast fwd 15 years and now the city is telling us how uns

UPS actually bought and destroyed thousands of homes near their end of the airport about 20 years ago, under the guise of 'noise', but realistically for expansion of warehousing. Now, I guess I feel slightly less upset by that (m

Is this like mandatory you have to work, or ... you have to work or you'll be fired? If the former, I always wonder about folks who were set to retire, age out, got a new job they're starting, have health issues, etc..

Inspiring comment. I hope you're right, if nothing else for the next generation's sake. I'm a bit more pessimistic here. > We can restore the timeline that's been stolen from us, the one we were on in the 90s before

I feel that way about a lot of things. Maybe it's just nostalgia...but heck we had Flash, Frontpage, VB,...we were spoiled. I sometimes wonder why such concepts went away, and everything became far more complicated.

The confusion here is that trad IRAs can be pretax or posttax dollars. This rule only matters if you have pretax dollars in an IRA that you want to also use posttax dollars to backdoor. To be clear, it wouldn't be taxed at 90% in this

What's weird to me is that they say 'well, with AI we need less people for the same output.' Why is the conversation rarely framed 'with AI we will move faster and have more output'? It feels like companies would be

As an American...no uncanniness to English. I guess because it was always the default and what was taught. The first time I encountered a non English PL, I did feel the same uncanniness you spoke of. It felt... wrong? I wish I remembered

On one hand, this makes me incredibly sad. It means that all of us, as consumers, agreed we'd rather save a buck than get acceptable service. On the other hand, as someone who did customer service in my younger years, 95% of calls wer

Yeah, whoever owns those numbers has to be rolling in rewards points. It's my loyalty number at Kroger, Publix, Speedway, etc. Heck it might be worth trying to purchase said number for the rewards, come to think of it.

No, as it's not permanent. Going from no buybacks to buybacks for example can be a bad sign to me. Companies who have been doing them for years perhaps less so. Same with layoffs. It's not like a boycott list, it's more o
