Currently it seems that the only possibility of getting generics in the language is generic lambdas wrapped in macros + tag compatible structs also wrapped in macros. It's fine but, skipping the preprocessor would be better.

It's amazing how much power _Generic, typeof, typeof_unqual, auto and empty brace initializers can give to the compile time of C (that we already enjoy in C++ through templates, constexpr, auto and friends). Now, if only we had a way t

Really? I would expect more than that from an EDG based professional compiler. A friend of mine uses the STM8 version in his workplace and he swears by it (though he still prefers SDCC due to C2x support)

About 4., there is already a preprocessor loop proposal for clang[0] and I think I have also seen it some obscure Qualcomm bluetooth chip compiler. [0]: https://discourse.llvm.org/t/rfc-new-preprocessor-macro-dire...

C also offers some kind of Bigint, though C's _BitInt was standardized because it's useful for high level synthesis (otherwise you need a custom preprocessor or C++ templates).

Both the C++ paper and the variants of it for C are blocked from lacking implementation experience. The C papers had other flaws too and the initial paper (written by the lcc-win32 maintainer) was outright rejected. To be fair it's not

To be fair, there is an operator overloading proposal for C2y/C3a and there is at least one compiler that offers operator overloading as an extension.

I've heard that they are working on C11 atomics, now that the C++ standard includes <stdatomic.h> for compatibility with C.

If I remember correctly, it's not even correct. The macro is supposed to be named BITINT_MAXWIDTH.

Oh, I didn't know that, nice! Is there some kind of draft of a paper which one can read in order to contribute/help/see the state of the proposal?

Are you Walter Bright, the creator of D? If yes, I was thinking of writing a proposal for WG14 some time in the future regarding slices/fat pointers. Would it be ok if I modelled it after the extension found in the betterC compiler, at
