I also used to be a non coder until I got my hands on VB. Consequently, my first programs were GUI instead of command line, which was everyone else's "hello world". It took a while to convince myself to learn other languages

Any thoughts on Mojo? From what I hear, it is also trying to solve the multi-language problem.

Sometimes the introduction chapter(s) is the killer when the author tries too hard to convince you to read the book when you're in fact already reading the book. It starts to feel like forever before I actually learn anything new or us

I try guesstimating the "information density". Often you can tell from the title that a topic is so specific that the book shouldn't be as long as it is. Self help books selling you one revolutionary idea are an example. Othe

It's not just AI art. Memes and unrelated stock image have also been used. It might be due to some SEO belief.

See what I want to think about, but it is an unstable image flash against a dark background. Details seem there, but not enough persistence of vision to observe them. Can keep flashing the images as necessary, but it doesn't have the s

Although not "official" by MS, perhaps the one from ANTLR's collection [0] is a good start (there are also other ANTLR VB6 grammars documented elsewhere). It does require knowing ANTLR's meta syntax, but it's not th

If it is just specifically MIDI editing that you need, a DAW can often be overkill. And when it is only MIDI editing, the (free/relatively updated) options are fewer. Sekaiju being my preferred tool, but there is also Aria Maestosa whi

For one, Ubuntu should stop breaking Firefox with Snap, even though I think that is a relatively small user base. (There are some suggested fixes but I think the simplest is to bypass Ubuntu's packages and just download FF directly fro

Microsoft tried with XPS which is a zipped XML format, pretty much like MS Office 2007+ files. To Adobe's credit, they made PDF an open standard around the time XPS came out. Maybe it's a combination of being there first, many fil

Agree. The question also lacks a "when" part. If it were "Would you pay $5 for this NOW?" then the answer has a higher chance to be NO, regardless of whether the other person think it is a good deal. The question is mor

Do these emails mention anything about content? It's scary if sites are actually ranked based on the spacing of control elements, fonts and such.

With my C# codes not heavily tied to specific .Net frameworks, it's not really affected by breaking compatibilities. However I avoid the latest IDE (VS 2022) which come with the latest frameworks as the IDE is often noticeably slower.

Software's re-usability is both a blessing and a curse. Hardware also has modularity, but it is still common to build hardware from scratch. On the other hand, once a library or framework exists, many people no longer feel the need to
