Don't know if/how this works in the US, but the EU emergency number can always be called without a simcard/subscription, so no need to swap simcards. (And sometimes even from a locked phone)

The reduction in warranty from 5 years to 1 when buying these doesn't weigh up to the quite limited reduction in price. This would only cover failures during the first few months of runtime, and while most drive-failures will be in the

I've setup a few podman machines (on debian), and generally liked it. I've been struggling for 2 days now to get a k8s server up, but that's not giving my any joy. (It doesn't like our nftables setup)

Most banks here (nl) give you a dumb coincell battery powered code-calculator, either with or without smartcard access to your banking-card. Basically some form of TOTP or challenge-response system. Those devices have no network, no connect

The only NAS (or other appliance boxes) I will tolerate are just plain 'generic' PC's with a regular Linux distro on them (Debian in my preferred case).

It's also _by_far_ the cheapest, and most git-work can be done offline, so while it's inconvenient, it's not stopping all operations here.

Well... then it's always been possible, if you use LVM and create a snapshot before upgrading, then you can revert your snapshot in case it breaks. But this isn't something that would be 'out of the box'... but that'
