Near the end of the post – after 50 years of axe grinding – djb does eventually get to the point wrt pqcrypto. I find the below excerpt particularly damning. Why not wrap nascent pqcrypto in classical crypto? Suspect! -- The general view to

On (2), here's something I've been wondering. Shouldn't the explosion of SaaS and remote work tools close the gap between internal/external transaction costs, and lead to a decrease in firm size? Because we've been

We are making [NTRU Prime + x25519 key exchange the default] now (i.e. ahead of cryptographically-relevant quantum computers) to prevent "capture now, decrypt later" attacks where an adversary who can record and store SSH session

That makes sense. But if signed AV takes off, the video someone else took of you and shared likely bears their seal. And audiences decide how much they trust that source – just like they look for a CNN / BBC / etc logo in the co

Maybe in the interim we need deepfake detection tools, but I'm asking about the long run. Suppose signed AV takes off as described above. The public has been trained: "If the video doesn't have The King's Seal, it's

I too wonder whether cryptographic signatures will be the long run solution to deepfakes. Can you outline why you don't think that will be the case? Here's an alt solution to argue against: 1. The necessary PKI gets bootstrapped b

For sure, this would only be a rough measure of tech dispersal itself, not a longitudinal study of HN users. The latter is interesting to us HN old timers, but the former is a consequential thing for the whole world.

There were similar polls in 2013. We could compare against those to measure tech dispersal over the last decade! - "Poll: Where are you currently living?" (Countries, 2013) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6582

Amazing — didn’t realize minimum feedback arc set had a low exponent solution in this case. Your comment made my day, thank you!

Post author. You nailed it on 3 - 5. This is about cutting through the noise to discover the emergent conventions, then using them to help first-time filmmakers. For something like 80% of feature film producers it's their first rodeo.

If two movies disagree on the ordering, it is not necessarily the case that one of them is doing it "wrong". (Author here.) Indeed! This is about trying to discover emergent conventions, so we can give first-time filmmakers a go

Nice, didn't know about `-`. What's your process once you're in the interactive rebase? The `git rebase --onto` I use is noninteractive and could be an alias, were it not for the business of finding the `branchpoint` commit.

Like so: git switch offshoot git rebase --onto feature branchpoint^ Will replay your offshoot branch onto its underlying feature branch after the feature branch has been rebased. The branchpoint is the first commit that diverge

Agreed on that point. A failure mode we're all familiar with -- more dependency arrows, more problems! But why did Vivint and Sunrun succeed when SolarCity failed? Sunrun apparently had a similar business model and economics. The linke
