Thank you, that would have helped. Still, it's just too many layers of complexity for my taste. Nailing performance problems in C is a Sunday walk in the park in comparison. Live and let live, I was just sharing my experience of going

I would be very, very careful about assuming that any observed behaviors are fundamentally human. Leave people alone to do their thing and you would get an entirely different set of behaviors. There's no question that the internet ampl

I practiced Chinese once a week for two years, unfortunately never got a chance to use it since so it's been aging badly. The thing that many seem to have issues with when it comes to speaking/understanding Chinese is that the ton

Right, if the discussion isn't going your way you can always side track by making up faults and projecting agendas. How is this helping us go anywhere worth going? I was talking about std::shared_ptr, which is the closest thing to refe

I found The Humane Interface by Jef Raskin illuminating back in the days, if my memory serves most of the content is just as relevant today. Edward Tuftes books also contain plenty of wisdom and examples of good design.

STL smart pointers are all fun and games until you start using threads, at which point you realize that automagically flipping the (now atomic) counter back and forth behind the scenes every time the pointer can't be safely passed as a

I have the same experience from implementing an interpreter [0] in C++ and later rewriting from scratch in straight C. The popular advice to use C with classes and skip the rest doesn't hold, for me it always turns into a constant loos

Low-quality babies? Wow. Because they don't meet your standards? They're human babies, and there is no such thing as a low quality human; though people like you sure come close enough.

Yep, more or less. Though if you flip through Snigl's README, there's already plenty in there that these languages will never be able to do. I used to do that in Common Lisp, which has the only FFI I've come across that'

Sure, I've played around with it; still too complex and too static due to being natively compiled. I've mostly given up on the idea of driving applications from a higher level language, I much prefer having C as a foundation and t

Lua has fibers? I thought they settled on throwing coroutines over the fence, which is very much not the same thing even though you can sort of build fibers using them. I'm pretty sure Wren's fibers aren't integrated with the

Sure, I played with Erlang back in the days. Preemptive kills the whole idea, which is why you can't share values. And it's probably the least integrated language I've come across.

Harder in other languages except Forth. While creating DSLs is easy enough in Lisp, Forth is more of a DSL construction kit than a programming language. Which is why there are roughly as many dialects as implementations.

Why? You really only need the C library to be able to pass a data pointer to the callback, and most do. This sounds like a native compiler perspective to me; with pure VM fibers like Snigl's these are not issues. It's not about di

Another win for embedded languages/inside-out FFI in my book, since controlling the outside world (C in Snigl's case) makes it trivial to register a trampoline with whatever state needed to deliver the call.

I'll take fibers that yield automatically on blocking operations over async/await most days for most tasks. It's slightly less flexible, since you can only wait for one async action at a time per fiber; but a pleasure to use
