OP said “one of the most...” Debt is certainly the most common and insurance is the one of the most common

But I am just responding to the parent right. Why are European companies not competitive? Why not break up US large companies and expect them to be competitive with other global companies

Isn't this an example that you don't want to break up the companies? i.e. EU companies are not as competitive, presumably lack scale for lower pricing, lack scale to invest into expensive R&D And that's bad for consumers

This is interesting. Then That’s clearly just lay-off.

Then that's just a PIP in disguise. The candidate could very well have been a false positive on the initial hire in the first place. And candidate simply got lucky into that team

It is weird to me that even gimlet podcasts are not exclusive to Spotify. But JRE will become exclusive

I honestly don’t care. But Spotify podcasting is so shitty compares to overcast. The fact that music is mixed up with podcasts makes search and discovery much much worse

Adtech would actually make it free. Arguably this is more like cable / Netflix than adtech

I mean what about kidnapping / hostage situation. Is this more about exercising judgement? Many first-world countries have no-knock warranty but really only the US has so many issues

Internally, Dara was very clear that the layoff would happen in 2 stages for the different organizations

Or you could see it as, they know who are the low performers. This is a good way to fire low performers in bulk without getting a lot of flak

But what I would like is to couch coop games, like switch. Many games on ipad are not built with couch coops with controllers as first class citizens

What I honestly would like is to use the ipad as a display for the switch when I am on the road. Of course, what would be even better is if ipad had games selection like the switch

The really interesting thing I learned during covid19 is that, the fact that everybody is WFH, makes WFH better. In the past, when I WFH, and everybody else is in the office. I was the odd one out and people start to talk amongst themselvce

You would not stagger it like that. My suspicion is that the lay off got leaked and it forced the company’s hand. They are probably scrambling to get everything finalized ASAP. And eng lay-off requires more planning than customer support la

Eng layoff is also coming. This looks to be just for service workers and contractors (like recruiters)

What do you think should have been done? The information got leaked, it forces the company to make an announcement.

This is kind of scary that companies can patent an interface. So google cloud is actually expected to also have this potential legal time bomb? Amazon can sue you and retroactively force you to pay them right? So all they need to do is to w

Can Amazon actually patent their API (per the google vs oracle case) - basically like prevent other vendors to provide S3 APIs so that Amazon can lock in users. I am not a lawyer. So this is a genuine / dumb question.

Might be a stupid question, it wasn’t clear to me in the article. Did they go back to a monolith service or a monolith repo? It really just sounded like monorepo

Is it possible to track the action inside the installer itself? e.g. each install contains a unique slug, when the installer is opened you use the unique slug to know where it is coming from?

Exactly, majority of the people in many of the states in the US believes gay marriage to be unethical. I mean, not long ago, these same majority of people wouldn’t have voted for African americans to go to the same schools as white children

So this judge changed the interpretation of the laws which made student loans more easily dischargeable. Any chance to make it into the supreme court? Cos arguably, this could make student loan widely dischargeable for people who need it

This is actually really clever. Maybe Uber can set a base rate of $0.75 per mile and then the driver can elect to increase it at a 25c per mile interval so that the supply is grouped together

Could you explain more? I don’t really understand. I thought it is written in law that student loans are not dischargeable
