Rushed endings are a staple of Stephenson books. Anathem probably has the least rushed one.

Anathem is fundamentally about the philosophy of mathematics. To someone like me who's actually interested in it, it was amazing.

Anathem is the second-best Stephenson after Diamond Age in my opinion.

The device doesn't really bother the user with that choice. All the user needs to do is close the laptop's lid or hit the power button and the device would go to sleep (by default). Every time a shutdown happens it means the user's going ou

It's as if you haven't even read the article. Despite fast sleep/wakeup existing in Windows, lots of people tend to not use it.

But all that exists today with sleep mode, yet apparently a large number of people don't use it.

The EFI firmware with "legacy" BIOS support that Apple uses. It doesn't help that Windows actually supports booting from UEFI but not the EFI 1.1 hack that Apple uses.

That's not true! When Vista came out the 15" MacBook Pro was the machine which had the best performance in Vista. Think a bit about that. Having had all this trouble, I don't believe that for a second. Turning off AHCI and not supporting

Yes, all of them are. Apple notebooks are the worst at running Windows. You don't have to type product codes -- you can install without one and copy/paste from a text file works fine once you're all set up. You don't have to insert DVDs

Are you sure Apple even supports running Vista on a 2010 MacBook Pro? I've had a huge number of problems with Windows on an Apple computer, and I now think Apple computers are simply terrible at running Windows.

The infrastructure's there, it's up to extensions to specify which settings they want to sync. Extensions themselves aren't yet synced though, yeah.

But XSS isn't novel by any stretch of the imagination, so there's no "disclosure" going on here at all.

The barrier to buying a game off Steam given that you own a PC/Mac is much lower than the barrier to buying an app off the App Store given that you own an iOS device (ignoring jailbreaking as usual). These sorts of barriers are characterist

You really think we should write an app for every file type? As a developer who believes in abstracting common code out, I find the notion frankly idiotic.

The size of Windows 7 SP1 is based on how many updates you already have. It's generally 60-100 MB. Only the absolute full ISO download is a gigabyte, and most people simply won't need that. Not to mention that non-SP1 Win7 kept getting secu

Firefox uses its own CA store, so you need to remove it there too (or wait for the 6.0.1 update).
