Assuming you use `dagger --interactive`, the debugger will kick in so you can inspect the failed state. In the specific case of Dockerfile compatibility, I don't actually know if it will be smart enough to drop you in the exact interme

Yes you can. Dagger is built on the same underlying tech as docker build (buildkit). So the compatibility bridge is not a re-implementation of Dockerfile, it's literally the official upstream implementation. Here's an example that

Dagger is fully declarative. It's just built on a dynamic declarative API, instead of a static declarative DSL. So, if you took Nix, and replaced the static scheme-like DSL with a proper API, and then built SDKs in 5 languages for that

In theory you could replace much of Docker's low-level tooling with Dagger. In practice, that's not what we're trying to do. There's a lot of inertia to ripping out existing tools, and even if the replacement is better

Hi Ben! You should definitely not use Dagger Shell as your default shell. It's meant to complement it rather than replace it. From the post: > Dagger Shell isn’t meant to replace your system shell, but to complement it. When a work

Docker introduced an ambiguity in the meaning of the word "container". The word existed before Docker, and it was about sandboxing. Docker introduced the analogy of the shipping container, which as ranger207 says, is about sandbo

I completely understand that fear. I see lots of other tech companies making that mistake, throwing away a perfectly good product and market out of pure "FOMO". I really, really don't want us to be one of those companies. I t

Dagger.io does this out of the box: - Everything sandboxed in containers (works the same locally and in CI) - Integrate your build tools by executing them in containers - Send traces, metrics and logs for everything at full resolution, in t

Thank you. Yes, I worry about muddling the message. We are looking for a way to communicate more clearly on the fundamentals, then layer use cases on top. It is the curse of all general-purpose platforms (we had the same problem with Dock

Hello! Dagger CEO here. Yes, we discovered that, in addition to running CI pipelines, Dagger can run AI agents. We learned this because our own users have told us. So now we are trying to capitalize on it, hence the ongoing changes to our w

Hello! Dagger CEO here. We are indeed getting an influx of AI workloads (AI agents to be specific, which is the fancy industry term for "software with LLMs inside"), and are of course trying to capitalize on that in our marketing

If you specify the image digest in the image address, buildkit (the low-level implementation of docker build) will skip the metadata lookup. For example: FROM nginx:1.21.6@sha256:ec5c36ef5a2c29cf90d5b59c5f9f90272b472c604983b474b201bc2bf
