"Repeatability is great, but who doesn't have that already?" Almost everyone. I think this is the heart of the misunderstanding right there. 99% of developers don't have access to a repeatable deployment system. When the

In docker's defense, it does much more than simply wrap lxc. It also handles logging, port allocation, container versioning, building containers from source code, data persistence, etc. Shipyard will have to re-implement all this (and

Speaking on behalf of the Docker project, I am very glad that the two first PaaS projects built on Docker happen to be led by Jeff, Daniel and Jonathan (for Flynn) and Gabriel's crew (for Deis). They are all active and helpful Docker c

The typical use case is to use Vagrant to spin up the machine which then runs docker. I wouldn't recommend managing Docker containers with Vagrant unless you're really heavily invested in a pure vagrant workflow and for some reaso

Yeah, it's hard to find the balance between "big picture" explanation and more concrete examples... This wiki page might help: it's full of various Docker resources: articles, tutorials, etc. https://github.co

Docker includes facilities for building, versioning, discovery, distribution and updates. So although it's very different from traditional package managers, yes, you can use it to distribute software.

In this case, the way to avoid fragmentation is not to merge but to standardize on the Docker APIs, just like Flynn does. Docker's job is to guarantee interop between PaaS-like components, so that you don't need to lock yourself i

Flynn apps are docker containers under the hood, so any docker container can be used to extend your Flynn deployment - including databases and pretty much any long-lived service you can think of. Take a look for http://index.dock

Docker will soon expose a simple API for service discovery and wiring. This will standardize 1) how containers look each other up and 2) how sysadmins specify the relationship. The actual wiring is done by a plugin, so you are free to choos
