If you've got your php code and static assets in the same repo, then it's generally easiest to have php and nginx run as the same user that owns the files in that repo. php needs access to those file to parse/run them, and nginx needs acce

I personally moved my Linodes to SL from CentOS (since Linode doesn't offer SL image, you start with centos base, switch mirrors, do update - pretty painless) after CentOS took forever getting it's 6.0 version out. It wasn't that CentOS too

I dunno. Unless you seriously know what you want to do, I feel like it'll be a waste of time. If you don't already have a very good idea about what you want to do, college is the place where you should discover that. Looking back, I had no

You can pretty much make a package for any distro on the planet to be installed using the default package manager. This isn't unique to Ubuntu LTS.

I use the MDN (#4 on the list) a lot. I only wish there was (or, I only wish I knew the name of...) a support-matrix site for javascript like there is for css (quirksmode.org). Some topics in MDN have that info, but not all (and when it d

I agree. I have to use the web based interface whenever I'm on Linux. I'd really like to see a native client.

How are any of these reasons that HipChat is "about to be ruined"? Both of those are huge products, and afaict were developed by Atlassian - not acquired. Atlassian has made two big acquisitions that I know of (Bitbucket, SourceTree), and

$1k also sounds cheap for an image slider, assuming that it was made from scratch, tailored for the client's specific purposes and had all the related issues (cross browser, graceful fallback, etc etc) taken care of. If the task could've be

That's a great suggestion, but the js snippet does not rely on any external toolkit that would make cross-browser text fading easy to do. Everything it needs to work it provides for itself. It's not even minified but ends up 1.7KB gzipped

I've got a lot of faith in varnish, so I'm pretty sure things should hold up on this end. However, yes, if you are worried about relying on an external resource by all means curl/wget/whatever the js file and server it up yourself. You ju

In my testing it does. If you've set that option and it doesn't look any different, then perhaps the element you're attaching to is the full size of the page? The attach-to-element feature is for people who say, only wanted to cover the h

Author of the js side here. I'll definitely look into seeing how much extra bulk will be needed for this. We're trying to keep the file as small as possible and generally as cross-browser friendly as possible.

I generally reserve ligatures to body text, in cases where it improves readibility. I don't know if anybody actually uses ligatures for headers.
