I’ve had it on since it was available, and it’s almost entirely invisible except for a higher rate of captchas, some banking applications re-requiring 2FA on log in from otherwise known devices, and Twitter missing caches for my auth state

Seems like an opportunity for businesses like Do Not Pay. I'd pay $2 for this, and it can't cost that much to print and mail paper. I'd even pay a recurring fee to handle these sorts of dark patterns systematically.

The market demand for making sanctioned transactions is quite small. For the average person, it’s basically nothing. For the prosumer, it might be drugs or prediction markets, and especially the latter is already legal in many jurisdictions

No it’s not? Rents are higher in New York than Paris or San Francisco. It’s hard to make the exact comparison because incomes are lower in Paris and San Francisco is a worse city, but New York’s affordable housing policy is 100% just the su

Modern fire codes are good enough that I’d be shocked if a code compliant new building with no windows is less safe than a pre-1960s building with windows.

For what it's worth, I think Vimeo doesn't have great authentication support. Most of the Patreons and Kickstarters which I know used it for distribution had a single word password to gate access to content.

Vimeo is losing money, but cost of revenue is only 26% of sales. This is an upper bound on hosting fees, since it also includes platform fees, card processing fees, building rents, and customer support.

Developing 3rd party frameworks is a meaningful expense. AOSP means Google made a business decision to incur that expense and sign away rights to it, but Apple hasn't.

Many quality startups nowadays offer early exercise (tax-free) and long exercise windows. In addition, in this scenario you're leaving because you don't believe in the equity.

The strongest case for startup equity as compensation is made by Ben Kuhn, in my opinion, and it amounts to: you can diversify your equity exposure in more companies than you could as an angel because (i) the best companies will want to hir

No you don’t need tracking for personalized ads. Apple defines tracking as sharing information about the user between distinct 3rd parties, while it personalizes ads based on your behavior within Apple’s own services.
