Reading through the IRC chat log it didn't look like he'd proved he had the CC numbers. I mean, if I was a linode customer I'd definitely be on the phone to the bank, but this guy presented no evidence I'm aware of that he had the kind of a

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with the author, but I think if you are going to 'do agile', especially in a breaky language like C++, you need to do tests. Lots. The current shop I'm at is maintaining a huge code base, parts of which go ba

Not to detract from your metaphor, but I think the main problem with scaling is to make as much as possible parallel, so that you can throw more cores / servers at it. Often this is at the expense of raw big-O efficiency I guess. I guess in

I think you might have got it - Lots of bad press about kids spending $1000 of mum's credit card dollars on Google Play Store. Better to give the kid an Amazon Coin account, like a charge card. Amazon do offer an alternate android ecosystem

Asking for a detailed quote (where the one time effort taken to create the quote is significant compared to the value of the contract) probably isn't reasonable. If you ask 500 freelancers to spend a day making a quote for a months work, yo

But I wonder - if they spent it, would it still have the same value? Imagine one year, everyone spent all their income on stuff - earned and unearned. How much would an ipad cost? There is a limited capacity to raise ipad production - build

And yet, having a 35 hour work week for 30 years is a huge achievement in itself. That's a billion hours not worked. International economics is too complex to pin France's woes on one single factor, especially when they have a lower debt to

This is a sales pitch by HP - they are trying to sell 'big data analytics' to huge clients, like General Electric. Oracle and IBM are also trying to sell this stuff. It's supposed to be the next big thing. I think there is some doubt here t

I'll exactly agree with the author - 25K GBP = 1500 GBP per month after tax. minus 600 for shared flat in bad area of London 240 for bills (gas, electricity, internet, phone) 80 for council tax 200 for train to work 180 for food = 200 I'm
