I don't understand the praise of Marginalia. When I search for "Steve Jobs" on Marginalia, I got blogs about his speech in 2011 and some mailing list from 2007. When I search for my own name I get nothing. In Google it's

Microsoft is one of the companies that love to use copyright to get their way, BSA is known software mafia, so I'm not at all sympathetic to them.

ok, that makes sense I guess. Once you know how git/hub works, it seems much easier to me to use github, but I understand that not all people do; while all the other sites (squarespace, wix etc) are too much of "website builders&q

But that's not pure go, that's C transpiled to go, but even the transpilation is using OS specific and CPU-specific unsafe code.

They run the whole testsuite on the transpiled code. I think. But yeah it does give me a little shiver to think you are transpiling C code to go code, and the go-code is not really "pure go", but has a platform-dependent unsafe op

You can legally say "this whole code is AGPLv3, based on works by these people under Apache". You cannot be legally obliged to say which parts are Apache and which parts are not. That makes no sense; that would make releasing the

It goes transitively though. Some popular go packages grab tens (sometimes over hundres, but not as much as in node world) dependencies. NOBODY checks the license all the transitive dependencies in go world. What should or should not happen

what IS weird though is the go exosystem thing. in go ecosystem, copyleft is very much not the norm. People might not realise that by just adding copyleft dependency to go.mod, the entire project becomes effectively agpl as it has the code

It seems ffmpeg uses the mailing list patch way of doing "PRs", which is... well it is what it is. It doesn't help me understand the process unless I just go through all the mailing list archives, I guess.

I don't know anything about ffmpeg codebase, but I just wonder... how would I go about doing this _slowly_ without completely doing a giant commit that changes everything? The presentation says it's 700 commits. Was that a separat
