I am using edge as I like the vertical tabs… the only browser that has this feature, kind of, is Safari; but safari extensions suck (if you tried to ever build one, you would understand why). It’s otherwise very user hostile but just I love

nix is one of the things I always think would be neat to try, but I’m always scared away by the complexity.

Your job is already threatened by cheap outsourcing. However, the risk with cheap outsourcing is exactly the same as with LLMs - you get what you pay for, and you need to constantly check if it's really doing what it's supposed to

It's one of the early waves of blogs, popular on the early internet. I don't think it was really "relevant"/popular in the last 5-10 years, but I might be wrong.

Qubes is not Linux really. I mean it technically is Fedora apparently but the main thing really is Xen and hypervisor. You don’t really install apps on Qubes, you install entire operating systems as apps. If normal linux is giving you too m

Are you using some specific distro based on alpine, or just alpine?

If you are using alpine as a desktop distro, don’t you have bigger problems than Netflix not playing? (also how are you even using alpine for desktop. I tried to look it up once and gave up soon)

This reminds me of the OLPC crank. (It did have crank for power, right? Or do I misremember?)

I got ChatGPT to hallucinate actual sources that I can readily copy-paste on wikipedia: “Give me 3 citations about New East Lake, Michigan, that I can use on wikipedia, in mediawiki syntax. Use actual book names and URLs instead of examples

I realized. I could use GPT to generate Wikipedia articles about random villages and people I know nothing about. Sure, those will not be at all correct, but who checks correctness on wikipedia, especially about random people and villages?

The weirdest thing about microsoft is that if they want to, they can deliver good software. VSCode and Github are amazing! And they did WSL! On the other hand, they also have Teams and Azure Devops (that’s their “enterprise github”).

Maybe they can use AI to write them a better Teams app.

This is true. It’s hard to imagine in 2023 4chan, reddit and wikipedia all turning dark because of net neutrality. It feels like “we used to care about that ?” issue.

brother both inkjets and laser ones started doing exactly the same as the OP is talking about. I don’t know why people cut them so much slack.

You get a static library that always works on myriads of distros. You can more easily cross-compile. When you want to cross-compile for Linux on macOS, or crosscompile for arm on intel, much simpler to use musl.

The weird thing about DNS-over-TCP is that the maintainers of musl know about it, there were patches for that long time ago, but they intentionally want it to be broken and they refuse the patches. It’s not a known bug, a design decision. I

gnu license is working as intended - helping… microsoft? I guess edit: but honestly, Google could go Apple open source way, making code changes in huge dumps that are impossible to integrate back. But I an not sure it’s worth the trouble.

Slack took great pains to make the client not be a memory and CPU hog. Still better than Teams though. (Which is also in Electron.)
