I think SQL is generally great but I do agree with you. Access to lower level primitives from which one could construct their own query plan would be awesome. Query hints (not available in Postgres) would also probably get you a lot of the

It's basically shameful how the maintainers refuse to even entertain the thought of allowing query hints. These kinds of articles and anecdotes come up again and again, yet seemingly no movement whatsoever on the blanket ban on query h

A lot of nodes are run by some (relatively) well-known, well-funded companies. See https://ethereum.org/en/developers/docs/nodes-and-clients/no... Wonder if they will be or have been subject to copyright

A handful of words can be copyrightable. The idea of copyrighted content being stored on a blockchain that thousands of nodes duplicate and offer freely is an interesting conundrum that your reply entirely sidesteps. I’m guessing it has hap

IMO 4k/60fps as a goal is overrated. 3k upscaled to 4k using a newer generation upscaler is not going to look much worse than native 4k, especially when viewed on a TV at a typical distance from one's couch. And 60fps, while cruci

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but don't the fees scale (basically linearly) with the number of transactions? It seems like you are suggesting that this NFT based approach is superior at least in part because money can be invested

I don't know if this initiative includes Wikimedia Commons but I'm sure they've got substantially more data than that, and higher typical bandwidth usage. ( https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page )

"Horrific" is massive hyperbole, at least for my use case. (I actually use a GCP preemptible instance in this manner for a personal project, and spot instances will have the same shutoff risk.) I edit application code on my (relat

It's probably a niche use case, but there is some utility to having a guaranteed daily shutoff. For example, you might spin up an instance as an on-demand remote dev environment, and the 24 hour cutoff ensures it doesn't accidenta

Interesting, though as you noted it's less than 1/1000th the size of the 530B model and according to the article is only used in about one in ten U.S.-based English-language searches, at least when that was written.

Does that hold as the workload scales up? E.g. could this or similar models be used as part of a general-purpose search engine whereby (at least) one inference is completed per unique search? Aside from computation, I know these models cons

As in this case, the "right" to clean water (or any other exhaustible resource) makes no sense -- at least if described in such blunt terms. Hypothetically, what happens in a drought, when there is no water for anyone? Have your r

Yes that's also a "right" that is devoid of legal, moral, or practical meaning. As is any "right" to any exhaustible resource. The UDHR is an aspirational document that has no legal force in and of itself.

Pretty questionable whether you should be letting a five year old use any VR headset. Oculus Quest specifies only ages 13+ and the science is definitely not settled as to how VR use would affect motor coordination development. If nothing

Yeah I think it's a huge roadblock for Unreal. Though, I'm not sure that the patent would preclude a system which organizes memory layouts at build-time rather than runtime (though I could be wrong about that). Could be a good ope

It's not relevant. Unity is claiming an automated system for determining an optimal memory layout as entities with new combinations of components are generated (at runtime). Such a layout defined in advance would not infringe.
