Copyright maximalists managed to circumvent the law by inventing a generic "law" that allows them to ban legal things. I.e. DMCA 1201. As long as they claim it's "circumventing protection measures" they can claim it

It's say it's all already skewed in favor of DRM proponents and all for bad reasons. So any movent even further in that direction should be strongly opposed. See also: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/in

Movie industry is guilty for existence of DMCA 1201 garbage. They shouldn't be demanding anything.

The idea is that to worry about security in something broken by design is a folly.

It's not like xdotool is so secure in the first place. X11 is one huge hole from that perspective. Anything can read anything and all your important input can be read by some other window anyway.

Makes perfect sense for it to be something that interacts with the compositor. So KWin does expose such API. But that's not part of Wayland itself or its protocols. Want to make it easy? Use KDE which cares about flexibility and write

You can decide whatever you want. Being stuck with unsupported case (X11) you support yourself is "viable" as long as support yourself is something you can do.

For what xdotool does - pretty much a substitute. For anything else you need a compositor specific tool. KWin scripts or something might work for KDE: https://develop.kde.org/docs/plasma/kwin/

Stuck up means they don't care to collaborate. If they don't, how would anyone know about their specific needs? Those who don't have this dinosaur mentality do work with Wayland developers and their needs are addressed faster

Buggier or not - it's too late to think X11 is the alternative. It's not. Wayland is going to get better for whatever is needed. X11 is absolutely not the way to go.

It's not the merit - it's the moat (i.e. lock-in) as the linked article states. Merit in this context would mean something you can compare across different GPUs. For CUDA - you can't. I.e. it's a tool to force you to use

I always understood async/await as expression of concurrency and threads as expression of parallelism. Which aren't the same thing. Concurrency breaks computation into chunks that can be interleaved even on a single CPU advancing

Could be. Haven't really looked into third party scripts development since I'm not using tiling. But actual KWin APIs should support it.

KDE has tiling scripts for KWin which can do the same thing. So you can get the same functionality without the need to go barebones for everything else.

It would take away a huge chunk of their advantage, no doubt about it. Let Nvida compete on merit instead of lock-in. Then you can say their advantage lies in being better. But Nvidia is very lock-in oriented, which undermines the claim tha

Lock-in should be broken. CUDA is one of the worst things about this whole ecosystem. Looks like AMD came close to breaking it, but they abandoned developing the translation layer.
