This is a practice I use; in my opinion it is akin to descriptive variable names.

I'd love to buy one too, but it would be expensive at $50, $250 is insane.

Silver Lake LLC -- were they not the people who also screwed over the Skype folks during that acquisition?

That may be so, but the marriage of "X likes Y (brand)" and a specific story is pretty confusing - it looks more like they liked a specific story than the brand, and just that the wording is bad. Anecdotally, I had a friend who 'liked' an a

One comment: Myself and others were initially confused by the layout of the page into thinking that CAH had turned a massive loss. It's only when you get to the bottom that there was any indication of sales.

It wouldn't, necessarily -- I thought about this a little, and there are ways to identify commonly used passwords without storing them in plain text. They could check passwords on login (before salting/hashing) against a blacklist of 'commo

I don't know why Dropbox STILL refuses to institute a 25GB plan. It's the most common complaint I hear. Now, people are giving their money to Google instead of Dropbox - that just totally seems backwards. I hope they have some really solid

Nice. Another way to deal (at least partially) with the Bursty IO issue is to turn on the option that forces whisper to do synchronous IO. This patch has been in graphite since 0.9.8: https://bugs.launchpad.net/graphite/+bug/710269/

This really needs to end up in Macports. I have the macports installed MacFUSE for a different program, and I can't use Truecrypt with that "version" of MacFUSE for some reason.

Yes. My point isn't that Allspaw can add servers and whatnot, but that he's a VP at the company. At some point, you stop thinking about computers and start thinking about how the business grows, and I think that he can help in that regard.

Etsy has John Allspaw, the guy who scaled Flickr. The man breathes scaling. He wrote the book on it! I realize he's an ops guy, but when you've got someone like him working for you, I'd say you've got a good chance of success. http://www.e

This is a poor analogy. Pandora isn't paying music fees once to listen to the songs in their office, they are paying recurring fees because they then redistribute that music to others in a streaming fashion.

These benchmarks were done by someone who seems to have no idea about the ins-and-outs of EC2. For example, there's a lot of IO bound tests... but they're on instance storage. What about Instance storage vs EBS? What about network performan

I really, REALLY hope Apple prevents Verizon from "verizon-ifying" this phone. They constantly put un-removable bookmarks, bloatware apps, and other bullshit on their phones. That will be a total deal breaker for me, if they do.

This is AMAZING. I didn't mind the maroon on beige as much as some, but I hate the crammed feel of a blogspot page, and it does an amazing job of freeing that content.

Shocked at the lack of zabbix. Alerts, graphs, history, all in one place. Install the agent and you get the basics for free - I just set up a demo of it a couple days ago in 30 minutes flat.
