I think the real issue here is the weakness of the passwords your bank is willing to accept.

Absolutely nothing. It's brain melting difficult to build a $50 million dollar business. If you can get to $50 million, you might as well up the ante, and just say you're going to create a billion dollar business. Because the curve on diffi

The gist was fine - the notion of the advantages in not taking serious VC backing. My concern in reading the post was how you're gauging opportunity, scale, and competition. The $50 million remark in particular threw me. In my experience an

The issue is the $50 million, whether valuation or sales. I fully understand the math involved, no surprise there.

I'm skeptical if this guy understands what he's talking about. He says he doesn't have to build a billion dollar company, he can just build a $50 million dollar company and go home happy. It's probably time for a massive reality check, beca

As a programmer, Allen was famous for often going straight to machine code to get maximum performance. Long after Microsoft moved to mostly using higher level languages for development, Allen continued to write tons of machine code. It was

I'm indifferent to the partisan arguing. However, I've spent most of my life as a self employed business owner. So let's talk about the real high taxes meme that nobody ever wants to talk about. My federal + SECA + state combined tax rate h

I think the improvements 37 Signals has delivered on speed have a lot more to do with recent database optimization and hardware upgrades than anything to do with static js file serving.

Yep, it can be a big annoyance to say the least. I'm using Rackspace in this case because I only need to constantly export the same 5,000 to 10,000 data files. My individual embed file sizes are in the low KBs, so AWS was going to murder me

I can definitely understand that. I'd recommend you give Rackspace a try. You can sign up for their CDN for free; they hit you for the storage and bandwidth used, but not per transaction. It's worth just experimenting with in a very simple

That's a solid article for anybody getting started with web development, but it really needs more coverage on the importance of CDNs for static content. Between Amazon, Microsoft, Rackspace, etc. they're cheap and trivially easy to utilize.

The NDAA bill is absolutely what wiped out habeas corpus. Until that was enshrined the US military had no right to domestic policing, and was in fact for most of US history specifically banned from such (except for eg the civil war). As you

It should be ringing alarm bells? The President of the United States recently suspended habeas corpus with the NDAA bill, realistically declaring an early form of martial law, and very few people noticed or cared. Then he decided to use the
