Most mutexes implementations spin before truly acquiring the lock. Also, there are better spinlock implementations, such as speculative spinlocks, and queued locks.

Where did you see that "renewables are sorted out"? Or that windpower "doesn't need batteries as much as solar does". What if you don't have wind? Sun? Is that also sorted out?

I think the author is suggesting to cross the world figuratively, not literally. Crossing the world is exploring businesses, people, trends, culture. If you live in a big city, you can go around the world 10 times in a few miles.

I would refrain from doing this. The problem is that you may have the proper include, but may be using the wrong compiler. Additionally, you may need a specific version of the implementation of the header, not just the presence of the heade

Great post. It's important to be close to your customers. If your customers are in SF, then being in SF can make sense. Another reason why you may want to be in SF is you need access to SaaS veterans at the VP level. Having someone in

My understanding is that it just gives you a bit of extra room if you have a small to mild timeseries problem. That's still a lot of use cases, but you're right it will never work for larger use cases. They said they didn't w

I see mentions of gdb - an extremely cumbersome tool - no mention of Visual Studio and its marvelous debugger. I too, when I'm on Linux, don't use a debugger, because there's no good debugger and adding a print statement is f

Thanks for the feedback. How is TimescaleDB doing with compression by the way? Meaning if you compare your raw data and the disk usage, what's the ratio?

From what you're writing it seems TimescaleDB doesn't really solve large timeseries problems. So it looks like more a good transitory solution than a definitive solution. Is that correct?

It's indeed going to be very, very, hard to retrofit a package manager into C++. You could structure something around CMake. One immediate issue is compilation flags and platforms management. You may need to use some custom flags, for
