When I discover someone saying "Twitter is a replacement for RSS" what I actually hear is "I'm a bleeding-edge-fanboy who can't be bothered with thinking about actual use-cases". Twitter and RSS are completely different approaches to conten

Nice overview of the most recent focus for collective navel gazing. I suspect the only way for 'reporters' to prevent second-hand reporting is to write articles that have a high signal-to-noise ratio. Articles that can't be reduced further

Your patronising tone is a little silly. Newspapers may be dying out, but there will always be a place for "media companies". Few people are willing to depend on Twitter and the blogosphere for news, and Yahoo is one of the few companies th

He makes a good point about sport fans and coupon clippers having subsidized "real" news. HN is a prime example of why that can't work online. Is there any reason that can't capitalise on that reversal by creating niche news sites that exce

It's not about safety, it's about privacy. Teenagers define themselves by who they talk to even more than what they talk about.

I'd be interested in seeing the actual questions. The ones mentioned in the summary (how easy was it to find the shopping area? and others about the Explore Pane) seem biased towards Bing.

There are proofs (by humans) that are too large for all but a rare few to check. Wiles' proof of "Fermat's Last Theorum" was 100 pages. Courtesy of Wikipedia: "Because Wiles had incorporated the work of so many other specialists, it had bee

I have some questions. The big draw for sites like Facebook is not just the core social network, it's also the tangental functionality that builds on that core. And this protocol aims to be a secure P2P implementation of the core. Does that

The real innovation in these products is the ecosystem of attribution they've built into the marketplace. When you view a particular image you can see what images it is based on, what images build on it, etc.

I got my current job (bespoke web development) based on my participation in an email list. Apparantly the other guys just recognized the name on the resume. Never underestimate the value of a reputation in the community.

Not that I have any problem with editorials. But there should be a clear separation from the actual content, and in this forum that means a comment. Negative sensationalism is just as irritating as hype.

I agree that being a leader in the field does offer flexibility and choice. But I don't think that's always (or even mostly) why people work to that position. They do it because they LIKE writing and speaking, or because networking is a key

This stream-of-consciousness style of writing is a sure sign of a fluff piece. Narrative is not a convincing argument, and two pages filled with "this is so" statements do not interest me.
