What bothers me is how literally every story about this sees a horde of comments embracing the slippery slope fallacy. Not all slopes are slippery. It is possible draw lines and stick to them over time.

Normally people talk about externalities of activity, as opposed to externalities of inactivity. I suppose this is just two sides of the same coin. People living in a place does have positive knock on effects. However it feels a little diff

All the comments are about the publication or the author as of the time I wrote this comment. Nothing about the article itself. Ok. I’ll bite: Are there industries or regions where the style of labor depicted in stardew valley is rewarded?

Neither of these items are unethical. They are just design decisions that you don’t like.

At this point it is just an investigation. Nobody has been charged with anything. They have to find a law Facebook has broken first, and presumably establish enough evidence that they expect to succeed at a trial.

The bathtub curve suggests you shouldn’t. A five year old plane should be safer than a two month old one.

Nowadays I don’t think chrome even stores the passwords locally. Maybe for signed out users but it seems like all my passwords are stored at passwords.google.com.

Hospitals cannot charge less than they charge insurance otherwise it would be constituted as insurance fraud. This implies that all insurers pay the same rates, which I think is not true.

Fascinating how few of these people spent the money on their own financial security. Can’t say I would make the same decision, but good for them!

I know rats can chew through many things. I did not know about cement. Fortunately, houses are not made of cement. They are made of concrete. And, as far as I can read online, only improperly cured concrete is vulnerable to rats. Rats also

I believe that rats have come up toilets non-zero times in history, but it’s never happened to me, nor did anyone I told about our rat problem mention it having happened to them. Rats can definitely squeeze into very small spaces. However,

I don’t know if most rats enter the home through the front door. I would guess that is pretty rare. Unsealed crawl spaces and attics are much more likely to be the culprit. Even then, they don’t necessarily do any harm. As long as the inter

Eh. Plenty of people buy iPhone Xsen even though it is 3x the price of competent midrange phones. Another 1.5x multiplier on a $1200 Xs Max doesn’t seem like an insane deal to me for the added feature if you’re a mobile media consumer. Mayb

You can’t directly increase your income by working one more hour if you are salaried . But you can certainly affect your growth trajectory by working harder/longer/smarter. You trade the marginal hour in a way that has a lagging,

The first link is not very compelling. Nobody disputes that particle physics has produced useful derivates for humanity in the past. The question is whether it will in the future, and whether they will be worth $20B.

Your use of the term “loan shark” actually brings up an interesting question in my mind. I assume that some fraction of the people that would have otherwise gotten a payday loan will go to the black market. Do we know anything about these p

I think the question of who owns it is normative, since ownership itself is just a legal/social construct. The question is which policy leads to a better world. On that front, I tend to agree with you. There are few people who will be
