This is an interview from 2010 and covers Crumb's illustration of the Book of Genesis. I don't own Crumb's book but have seen it reviewed (RIP Ed Piskor) and it looked wonderful. I can't read the article unfortunately du

A good book on semiconductors is "Chip War" by Chris Miller. It talks at length about TSMC and Morris Chang. Great book. [1] https://www.simonandschuster.co.uk/books/Chip-War/Chris-Mill...

In addition to cars, I'm a cyclist and have noticed that LED cycle lights, both front and back, can also be far too bright sometimes. Blinding in fact. A few years ago, I was behind a bike which had such a high powered rear (red) LED l

Noah Smith (Noahpinion) had a decent post up a few weeks ago about this aspect of war - war production. He titled it "People are realizing that the Arsenal of Democracy is gone" [1]. It was quite a sobering read. The thought that

I don't really use social media (no Facebook, twitter etc.) and have not kept up well with the various new technologies and terms in the field (e.g. mastodon etc.). But I use Firefox and like Mozilla so I am interested in what this is.

No idea. I've been using Firefox and Sync for years, currently on 5 devices (one android). Never had a problem. Firefox 121.0 (64-bit). This is the "release" channel. Maybe you're beta testing?

I think you sometimes need to be in the right frame of mind to tackle some books, especially the more "literary" or complicated novels. "Possession" was like that. It's one of the great books I've read and perh

I have the Fagels translations and found the Bernard Knox introductions excellent as well. Especially the ruminations on the possible "deep history" of the story and events depicted in the books. Overall though, The Illiad is so r

The Waterstones bookshop on Tottenham Court Road, London, has a coffee shop and bar in the basement. It's very comfortable and pleasant, although I haven't been in for about five years now.

I live in Edinburgh and one of the first things I noticed when I first came here was how many Tesla's there are. I put some of it down to a dealership in a central swanky street with rich footfall (gone now). Things snowball. We get a

It was a bit of a shock when I upgraded my Debian systems to Bullseye (11) from Buster (10) a year or so ago. I discovered that the wiki I've been using for years, Moin Moin, was removed because it didn't support Python 3. I'
