I don't know that you need a new relic type system just yet. I would look at the queries that are sent to the database. Assuming you are using a popular framework like Symfony or Django, there should be debugging output that will show the q

It does take some extra work, but I've implemented this using trigger functions. There is questions and various ways to solve it on stackoverflow [1]: [1] - http://stackoverflow.com/q/1109061/1646663

This question has come up in one form or another in past threads. I'll answer here the same as always: http://www.webhostingtalk.com It is a forum of data-center and webhosting nerds who really take pride in their work. I use it as a reso

Somewhat relevant, but on a much smaller scale I suppose: I had to geocode 100million addresses and used PostGIS to get it done. It was painfully slow on disk, so I rented some big-ram servers, created ramdisks, configured postgres to run f

Again, that is hardly literary. If you want literary use of "fucking" (there, I said it), then I would invite you and the repo owner to read "The Elements of Fucking Style" by Chris Baker and Jacob Hansen [1]. Maybe then you both would unde

It's hardly an "intensifier." Expletives have lost their impact because of overuse. This is not the case of overuse? That github page drops the f-bomb 20 times.

This lacks class regardless of how useful the software may be. And yes, it does matter. What is with all the crass language that has become so pervasive in this industry in recent years? Why the need to express yourself so poorly?

You want a real show about bullying? Watch 3'oclock high [1]. It's a fun story about hitting back. I thought that video was horrible. Kids need to learn to hit back, either physically or verbally. My kids will learn to hit back because that

Overall I tend to agree with the author's thoughts. However, I would like to say that just a dash of backbone and client-side MVC can make your site _feel_ more responsive without all the baggage of a single-page app.

I don't think CPB has had BK for a while [1]. Though I agree this could have been in Crispin's spirit. [1] - http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/18/burger-king...

I recommend you take this question over to the WebHostingTalk forums [1]. They have a lot of smart people who are in that space and can offer a lot of insights as well as deals on hardware, bandwidth, storage, etc. I am not affiliated, jus

I'm not sure what breaking the internet means. Failing to do data validation on the server side is application suicide. Depending where you are in your development lifecycle, it is probably better to focus on the 99% of users who have JS en

I don't know. I'm just pulling from personal experience. The best spaces I've found have actually been dim, warm, and cozy. I find that my best development hours are late at night, wether in the office or at home. But for other parts of bus

I've completely left ORM-land (in PHP). I find that: * I have little need to switch databases * ORMs provide little support for things like views, stored procedures, custom types * I like to see the SQL in context of my code.

I must disagree. While technology has certainly enabled remote working I do not believe that is the future. Google, for all of it's whimsy, is on the right track. Though many dot-com and ad agencies may make their offices look like adult da
